The most "criminal" country: where was the record crime rate recorded? A ranking of countries with the most dangerous criminal groups has been compiled

The influence of criminal groups in more than a hundred countries around the world was assessed by experts from the World Economic Forum. They found out where the bandits are most active.

El Salvador ranks first in this. It is noted that this state suffers most from the rampant organized crime. This country is assigned a "security" score of 1.5 out of a possible seven. For comparison: from the point of view of the compilers of the list, in Finland and Norway crime has almost no impact on business - 6.8 and 6.1 points.

According to the UN, El Salvador tops the list of the most violent states - more than 100 murders per hundred thousand people. Experts note that the country is a “hot spot” for drug traffickers due to its geographical location - it is located at the junction of North and South America.

Honduras occupies second position. “One of the most crime-ridden areas on the planet lies along the coast of Honduras and on both sides of its border with Guatemala,” the UN Office on Drugs and Crime said in a report. Thus, in 2014, the number of murders in San Pedro Sula was 171.2 per hundred thousand population. WEF experts estimate the impact of crime at 2.4 points.

Venezuela is in third place. Its capital, Caracas, is the most dangerous city in the world. There are 130 killed per hundred thousand people there. Analysts are confident that political instability has given a free hand to organized crime, whose influence is growing. The WEF rates Venezuela's "security" at 2.5 out of seven.

Next comes Mexico. Last year, it ranked second in terms of death toll on the list of states where armed conflicts are taking place. Officially, there is no war on the territory of the country. However, in the bloody battle between the authorities and large drug cartels, tens of thousands of people die every year: experts estimate that last year the drug war in Mexico claimed more than 20 thousand lives. The WEF awarded the country 2.6 points.

Analysts estimated the impact of Guatemalan organized crime on local business at 2.7 points. The country, which ranks in the UN's top 10 for murder rates, is home to two of the region's largest gangs, the Mara Salvatrucha and the 18th Street Gang, both of which have grown in prominence since the 1996 civil war.

Jamaica's rating is 2.9 points out of seven. Before his extradition to the United States, the country was home to “one of the most dangerous drug lords in the world, Christopher “Dudus” Coke. The US State Department considers Jamaica a major exporter of marijuana and an important transit hub for cocaine supplies from Latin American countries.

Seventh place was awarded to Colombia. The homeland of Pablo Escobar is considered one of the main suppliers of cocaine to the global black market. The total area of illegal coca plantings in this country is estimated at approximately 100 thousand hectares. Since the beginning of the year, Colombian authorities have confiscated more than 300 tons of the substance. The WEF estimates the state's "vulnerability" at 2.9 points.

Almost three points were given to the situation in Chad. There, organized crime is closely linked to radical Islamists from the Boko Haram group. The State Department records a large flow of smuggled oil and gold into the country. In addition, marijuana and cocaine enter the Arabian Peninsula through Chad.

In ninth place is Peru. This state is the world's second largest exporter of cocaine. There are extensive networks of local drug cartels throughout the country, but the level of violence associated with organized crime is relatively low. The relative “bloodlessness” of the local mafia is due to the fact that the “black market” is controlled by several family clans that can cooperate with each other. WEF experts rate Peru's "security" at 3.2 points.

Rounding out the top ten criminal countries is Yemen. 3.3 points. The reasons are widespread poverty and the armed conflict between the authorities and the Houthis, which has been ongoing since 2014.

There are countries where there is no crime. In general, of course, even in such quiet corners you can find entire groups if you dig deeper. And there are countries in which crime is rather the norm of life. Crime there has penetrated into all spheres, including politics, key sectors of the economy, even religious life.

It would be a big mistake to assume that the crime rate clearly depends on the development of the country and the standard of living of citizens, although many people think so. For comparison, we can cite the USA and Bhutan. The first is a fairly rich country with a high standard of living, a European-style culture and Protestant morality... but the crime rate there is also quite high. The second country is one of the poorest in the world, but, nevertheless, crime there is minimal.

The reasons for high and low crime are much more complex. Education is of great importance, as is the mentality of the people. If in European countries it is generally accepted that robbing and killing is very bad, then in African countries it is quite the opposite: here everyone does it with pleasure, and famous robbers and murderers are at the top of the social hierarchy. Local residents simply cannot imagine that they can live any other way.

Despite the fact that it is a fairly developed country in Latin America, it is considered one of the countries with the highest crime rate. The main source of crime is the abundance of drug cartels trading “substances” with the United States. Of course, big businessmen and politicians are also involved in this matter.

This is a “typically African” country, despite the fact that the Amharas are sort of Semites, and even Orthodox... Total poverty and underdevelopment have led to frequent cases of kidnappings, especially of foreign citizens. Stealing cars by breaking windows is also a popular “hobby” of local residents.

It may not be the poorest country in black Africa, but the protracted civil war has taken its toll. Supporters of Laurent Gbagbo, the president of the republic since 2000, and Alassane Ouattara, a ruler recognized by the international community, are fighting among themselves here. As a result, any There is virtually no legality in the country.

The country is among the poorest in Africa. The local population lives solely on cattle breeding and agriculture, but for many this was not enough. Robberies, kidnappings, murders (including for the purpose of eating) - the whole spectrum is evident. This country has not attracted tourists, much less investors, for a long time.

This “Switzerland of the Middle East,” as some still call Lebanon, was once the most highly developed country in the region. Currently, after a protracted civil war, a new confrontation has broken out, this time between supporters and opponents of the new Syrian government. Assad's supporters are Shiites, and his opponents are Sunnis. Many Lebanese from both sides went to fight in Syria, but now the conflict has spread to Lebanon itself. All this hinders the recovery of the once brilliant economy, which contributes to very high crime and corruption. It is curious that in total 40 (and according to other sources - only 30) percent of the inhabitants profess Islam in Lebanon, that is, this is a country with a predominant Christian population.

This Arab state, alas, is more reminiscent of an African dictatorship. The main problems are not limited to poverty and unemployment: civil liberties are severely limited here, and the death penalty is provided for many prohibited acts (for example, homosexuality or departure from the strict canons of Islam). Government and organized crime are, by many reports, completely fused.

Surely many have seen this spectacular bill on TV - 100 billion Zimbabwean dollars, with which you can buy exactly two loaves of bread. Fantastic inflation happened here for a reason. The economy, which recently could be considered prosperous, collapsed instantly as soon as power was transferred to the black population. The new leaders of the country gladly “threw their hands,” and the whole people followed them - some “out of habit,” and some simply out of a desire to make money. Today Zimbabwe is one of the most terrible countries in the world.

At first glance, highly developed Israel is a friendly and quite prosperous country. But everything is spoiled by the Arab-Israeli conflict, which has become the scourge of the Middle East region for many years. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has made it unsafe to live in this country. Do not forget that in Israel there is traditionally total military conscription, even women serve here; many civilians carry weapons and are ready to forget at any moment that they are peaceful.

Like Mexico, the drug trade is booming here. The locals do not shun kidnappings, massacres, and looting. There are a lot of armed groups here. And the main reason is one - the poverty of the overwhelming majority of the population, because the entire “legal” economy is traditionally in the hands of the white minority - the descendants of the Spaniards.

This country also joins the list of the most criminal countries in the world, being one of its leaders. Money laundering, contract killings, drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, war crimes - this is not a complete list of popular “entertainment” of Ukrainians. To this we can add the wild popularity of criminal procedures among the civilian population, mixed with a low level of education and faith in state propaganda. After the arrival of the new government and the start of the civil war, the situation only worsened.

This list is based on the “Global Peace Index”. It does not include some countries that are at approximately the same level as those listed, in particular a number of African countries (Nigeria, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo), as well as Afghanistan and North Korea. The world community generally knows little about the latter, since the country remains isolated from the outside world. Be that as it may, the source of all power in the DPRK remains the Communist Party, which almost completely suppresses citizen activity (not only criminal).

The most "criminal" country: where was the record crime rate recorded?

45 thousand murders per year

There is a lot of crime in the world, but in some countries there is more of it, in others a little less. By conducting various statistical studies and analysis, it is possible to give a clear answer to the question of which country is the most criminal in the world.

Unfortunately, in our time, more and more countries have begun to fight for the title of the most criminal country.

Earlier this year, the UN published a list of the leading countries in terms of the number of victims who died from unnatural causes. Victims of court decisions and armed conflicts were not taken into account. Brazil topped the list. In this country, according to 2010 data, the number of murders per year is 44,909 people.

Class division

One of the reasons, experts say, is the country’s large population - 190 million people. But, in terms of population, Brazil ranks only fifth after China, India, the USA and Indonesia.

What is the reason for these terrible numbers?

The main reason is the clear division between the class of poverty and luxury. Moreover, the wealthy part of the population are people associated with drug trafficking, human trafficking, and arms sales. A separate component of this pie are corrupt officials and police officers who turn a blind eye to all shadow business. As a rule, the highest ranks of government are also the organizers of all kinds of criminal chains.

The fertile soil of Brazil adds fuel to the fire. People are often forced off their land to plant soybeans and sugarcane. Slave labor is used in all its glory on plantations and forest clearing. And this is in our age of humanity and advanced technology.

"Police uniform hanger"

Law enforcement officers are often just a hanger for the police uniform. The honor of the uniform has clearly never been heard of here. Clean-ups of criminal areas are regularly carried out, as a result of which ordinary residents and small links in the criminal chain are arrested. The so-called “bosses” are always in the shadows. The prisons are overcrowded with innocent inner-city residents who are responsible for their rich "brothers." Moreover, it is easier to call a prison institution a cabinet of curiosities. Nobody thinks about correction here, because most of the guests are simply innocent. Torture, like slavery, is the norm here. Any undesirable citizen can be placed in a correctional institution and disappear there. And this is also the norm.

Tourism in Brazil is quite developed, but this tourist area cannot be called safe. Despite all this, the country is developing and prospering. It is recognized in world economic markets. But it is worth remembering the price of this prosperity, since part of the country’s money turnover is the result of trafficking in drugs, weapons, and people.

Speaking about Brazil, we should not forget about other countries that are no different - Mexico, Handuras, South Africa, Italy, Russia, Ukraine - this list can be continued for a long time.

Brazil isn't that bad

And yet we should not forget that this is a country of football and colorful and spectacular carnivals. Rio de Janeiro is an incredibly beautiful city that, despite everything, attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year to its carnivals. The contrasts of impenetrable jungle and majestic mountains - the landscapes of Brazil have inspired the work of more than one artist.

Thus, we can conclude that the most criminal country is Brazil. The increase in crime is very high here, despite all the attractions and other advantages that it has.

If you are planning to spend your upcoming summer vacation without incident, then it is better for you to exclude the cities from the tourist route, the list of which we provide for you.

Ciudad Juarez, Mexico

This city is in first place in terms of the level of unfavorable crime situation. The whole reason is that Ciudad Juarez is located on the border between the United States and Mexico, and huge quantities of drugs are transported through this city every day. As a result of this combination of circumstances, several hundred people are killed here every year during police operations and simply during brawls between bandits. Not long ago there was a terrible incident in Ciudad Juarez when armed men burst into a club and simply opened fire on innocent unarmed citizens. The attack killed about fifty people.

Caracas, Venezuela

Venezuela can compete with Mexico's Ciudad Juarez for the title of the most crime-ridden city in the world. They are especially merciless here towards tourists, who can simply be stripped naked in broad daylight and killed. Attacks on tourists have become commonplace in Caracas, and therefore it is better for a visitor not to appear without security. Labor emigrants who are forced to live in the Venezuelan capital live in separate areas under guard. The whole reason for this level of crime is that Venezuela has problems with unemployment and low wages. People simply have nothing to live on and therefore they are forced to resort to such unpopular measures in order to somehow exist and not die of hunger.

San Pedro Sula, Honduras

Despite the tourist attraction of the region, San Pedro Sula is not the best choice for a tourist. There are about 170 murders per 100,000 population. The situation here is the same as in Ciudad Juarez: it is a border city through which illegal drug and contraband traffic flows. The situation, it must be said, is more rosy here and during daylight hours it is more or less safe to move around the city, however, at night it is still better to stay at home.

Guatemala, Guatemala

Almost half of all murders in Guatemala occur in the capital - about 90 people per 100,000. Robbers, swindlers and pickpockets - they can all be found on the streets of Guatemala day and night. There are special safe zones for tourists, but even in them you can find many problems.

San Salvador, El Salvador

95 murders per 100,000 people - fourth place goes to the city. This situation, according to human rights activists, has developed because the authorities pay very little attention to the problem of fighting crime. The main problem for most people is the Mara gang. It is the largest in the country and has many corrupt connections in the government, which leads to such a sluggish fight against the crime syndicate.

Cali, Colombia

The 72 murders per 100,000 people result from Colombia being the world's largest cocaine exporter. This state of affairs leads to the fact that drug cartels, having enormous amounts of money, control the life of the entire country, and the authorities can do little about it (and do not want to). The highest level of corruption has led to the fact that in fact, representatives of the criminal world are in power.

New Orleans, USA

It is the most dangerous city in the United States. The city found itself in such a disadvantaged situation due to the low standard of living of the townspeople, a poor education system and frequent natural disasters, during which looters operate. 67 murders per 100,000 population - tourists should avoid this city.

Cape Town, South Africa

This is one of the most beautiful and highly developed cities in Africa. Everything would be great if Cape Town didn't have its creepy suburbs and slums, which are full of unemployed people who are always happy to take away the excess from a lost tourist. The city's problems surfaced during the World Cup, when many tourists became victims of robbers.

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

54 murders per 100,000 people - this is the result for the capital of Papua New Guinea. The reason for the high crime rate is quite banal - low quality of life, problems in the economy, unemployment. All this has led to the fact that Port Moresby has received far from the best reviews from tourists and is one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

Detroit, USA

This is a city that exists solely on government subsidies; the majority of Detroit's population is African-American. Constant acts of vandalism, general unemployment, and low levels of education have led to Detroit's crime detection rates and murder rate getting worse every year. Today this figure reaches 46 murders per 100,000 population.

The United States of America is one of the most popular countries in the world for. How is the security situation in the USA? What do statistics say about crime rates? Let's pay attention to these and other points.

Generally speaking and based on statistics, today the crime rate in the United States is quite low. This is especially clearly demonstrated by such an indicator as the number of murders per 100 thousand people: in the USA it is 4.6. Of course, in such developed European countries as Germany or Norway, the figure will be even lower, but if you compare America, for example, with Russia, the difference is simply huge. Thus, in the Russian Federation there are as many as 10 murders per 100 thousand people.

It should also be noted that crime in the United States is decreasing every year. For clarity, let's turn to statistics again. So, for example, if in 2005 there were 416 car thefts per 100 thousand people, then in 2010 there were already 239. The murder rate used to be 5.6, i.e. noticeably higher than now.

If you believe other statistics, about 80% of American citizens are not afraid to walk along dark streets alone.

In addition, only 1.1% of the entire country's population became victims of crime: for comparison, in many this figure is higher.

Women can feel completely safe in America: statistics say that in 2019, crimes are committed against women in the United States 4 times less often.

Racial composition

A feature that characterizes American crime is the ethnicity of the criminals. In the vast majority of cases, illegal acts are committed by African Americans, slightly less often by Hispanics, and very rarely by whites. Statistics show that blacks commit 6 times more crimes than whites!

Criminologists attribute this to discrimination against African Americans, who, because of this, find it very difficult to find permanent work and housing, which pushes them towards crime.

Availability of weapons and their impact on the situation in the country

In America, it is officially legal in 2019 to carry firearms for self-defense. On the one hand, this seems correct, because in this way a person can protect himself as much as possible. But, unfortunately, this is precisely what leads to frequent cases of fatal shootings, which negatively affects the overall level of security.

In the state of Texas, it is even legal to kill anyone who intends to break into a home to commit a crime.

Social control

On a positive note, the American people are extremely vigilant. In the United States, it is not considered shameful to report an acquaintance or friend to the police if they are involved in some suspicious or illegal activities. Perhaps it is precisely this feature of the American mentality that makes it possible to prevent many crimes, significantly increasing security in the United States.

It is also important to mention the functioning of Neighborhood Watch. Citizens unite and patrol the streets, maintaining law and order. These preventive measures often prove to be very effective.

Gang activity

While in countries like Russia, crime operates largely in isolation, in the United States the influence of gangs remains strong. The total number of gang members in the country, despite serious opposition from the police, is large and amounts to about 1.4 million people. In some cities there are areas where even police officers are afraid to go without weapons.

Today, the most famous and dangerous gangs are the following: Crisp (manned only by black Americans), Bandidos (bikers), Aryan Brotherhood (members of this gang are criminals serving sentences in prison).
