Flights from the airport are brave. Hotels in the transit zone

Kaliningrad Khrabrovo International Airport is located 20 kilometers northeast of the central part of the city near the village of the same name. It is a kind of transshipment base for airlines that fly between Russia and European countries. This is the only airport in Kaliningrad that connects the westernmost and most isolated region of the Russian Federation with the rest of the country.

The history of the airport begins back in 1922. From here the first regular air route Moscow-Konigsberg was laid. In 1945, a Soviet airport was founded on the basis of one of the oldest European airports, which served as the beginning of all civil aviation in our country.

In addition to civil aviation, Khrabrovo Airport is under the joint jurisdiction of the aviation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, the FSB of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

Brief chronology of the development of the Kaliningrad Khrabrovo airport

The airport and all property were transferred to the ownership of the USSR only in 1945. Only in 1961 did the combined squadron and aircraft of carrier companies begin to be based at the airport.

Since 1977, Kaliningrad Khrabrovo Airport began servicing passenger aircraft of the Tu-134 type. Two years later, a new terminal was built, which made it possible to service a large number of clients. In 1988, the airport began receiving Tu-154 aircraft.

In 1992, Kaliningrad Khrabrovo became an independent enterprise and separated from the Vnukovo association. A year later, the first scheduled flight of international importance was carried out.

A new stage of development began in 2004, when construction began on a new modern passenger terminal that would meet international quality standards in service. In the same year, the runway was reconstructed and navigation equipment was updated. In the summer of 2007, a new airport complex was put into operation, which is capable of serving up to 3 million passengers per year. Due to financial problems, all construction and repair work at the Kaliningrad Khrabrovo airport was frozen.

The resumption of repairs began only in the fall of 2014. As part of the new project, it was planned to extend the runway to 3.5 kilometers. The apron was also expanded.

During the entire period of operation of the Kaliningrad Khrabrovo airport, only one aviation incident was recorded. This happened on October 1, 2008, when a Boeing 737 airliner made an emergency landing on the runway without landing gear. As a result of the landing, all passengers and crew remained unharmed; as for the aircraft itself, it received severe damage to the engine nacelles and fuselage.

What to do if your flight is canceled

If a flight is canceled more than 24 hours before departure, passengers will be transferred to similar airline flights. The carrier bears the costs; the service is free for the passenger. If you are not satisfied with any of the options offered by the airline, most airlines can issue an “involuntary return.” Once confirmed by the airline, the money will be returned to your account. Sometimes this can take several weeks.

How to check in at the airport

Online check-in is available on most airline websites. Most often it opens 23 hours before the start of the flight. You can go through it no later than 1 hour before the plane departs.

To check in at the airport you will need:

    • identification document specified in the order,
    • birth certificate when flying with children,
    • printed itinerary receipt (optional).
  • What can you take on a plane?

Carry-on luggage is the items you will take with you into the cabin. The weight limit for hand luggage can vary from 5 to 10 kg, and its size most often should not exceed the sum of three dimensions (length, width and height) from 115 to 203 cm (depending on the airline). A handbag is not considered hand luggage and is carried freely.

The bag you take with you on the plane should not contain knives, scissors, medicines, aerosols, or cosmetics. Alcohol from duty free stores can only be transported in sealed bags.

How to pay for luggage at the airport

If the weight of luggage exceeds the standards established by the airline (most often 20-23 kg), you need to pay for each kilogram of excess. In addition, many Russian and foreign airlines, as well as low-cost airlines, have tariffs that do not include free baggage allowance and must be paid separately as an additional service.

In this case, luggage must be checked in at the airport at a separate Drop-off check-in counter. If you are unable to print your boarding pass, you can obtain one at the airline's regular check-in counter, and check-in and check-in your luggage there.

Where to find out the arrival time if you are a greeter

You can find out the plane's arrival time on the airport's online board. The Tutu.ru website has an online display of the main Russian and foreign airports.

You can find out the exit number (gate) on the arrivals board at the airport. This number is located next to the incoming flight information.
