Let's go to Europe on our own! The most inexpensive countries in Europe How to organize a cheap trip to Europe

Material about the essentials: how to travel cheaply if the euro is jumping, and with it the prices in rubles?

I thought and thought about how to present it in a more accessible way and came up with an idea! For me, the owner of five Schengen cards, these secrets of saving in Europe are obvious, but for a beginner in the travel business, most likely not.

Therefore, it was decided to take my friend Dmitry, who has not yet seen abroad, but really wants and seems to be even preparing, to find out his algorithm for organizing a trip and, based on the result, point him in the right direction, simultaneously explaining the announced life hacks to you, the reader.

1. Decide how to relax cheaper - on your own or on a tour

– So, the plan is to visit Europe cheaply. Will you go on a tour or put together a trip yourself?
- Himself, of course. This is 100% more profitable!

Explanation: yes, but not so. Most EU countries are actually wiser to visit on your own. But:

  • if you are planning to fly to one country,
  • This - Spain, Greece, Cyprus or Bulgaria,
  • and the goal is a vacation at sea,

That the tour will be cheaper. A truth that has been tested by me more than once! Even to see the same Barcelona, it is cheaper to take a ticket, for example, to Pineda de Mar and take the train into the city several times, than to arrange a self-tour around the capital.

Observation point "Bunker" in Barcelona - high and free

- You seemed to be going to Paris, right? How do you search for tickets?
– I’m monitoring flights, there are still three months ahead... but flying from Moscow is not so profitable.

Explanation: Inexpensive and comfortable - this happens very rarely, so you have to sacrifice something. You probably know that the cheapest air tickets are within Europe. True backpackers love budget airlines (low-cost airlines)– Ryanair, Wizzair, Vueling, etc.: once you are in the eurozone, you can travel around it all.

How to get out of Russia without major losses? The main destinations are Vilnius, Riga, Helsinki, Tallinn.

  • From Moscow: Nesterovsky train (≈1200 rubles), Ecolines, Luxexpress buses (≈3500 rubles), for those who like it harder - (≈1500 rubles)
  • From St. Petersburg: Ecolines, Luxexpress buses (≈1500 rubles), minibus to Helsinki (≈1000 rubles)
  • From the regions: more difficult, but there are also chip flights, for example, Kazan-Munich for 6,000 rubles

And one more rule: buy tickets in advance– it always works. To get a cheap trip to Europe for the May holidays, I grabbed a ticket back in September, and what a ticket! Moscow-Oslo for 3500 :)

The right services to search for air tickets

Everyone knows where to look for tickets - on the largest aggregators, but not everyone takes full advantage of their capabilities.

  • Skyscanner is a cool function for selecting directions depending on the departure point. I use it often and end up winning (like with Norway). You type the departure city in the “from” box, and the mysterious “everywhere” in the “where” box, and here they are – the most delicious options for your dates
  • Aviasales – there is a calendar of low prices, and finds a little more offers. Convenient for searching for round-trip tickets: the cost is lower than on Skyscanner

5. Traveling with hand luggage

– Okay, let’s say I fly to Paris from Vilnius on a low-cost airline. But plus an extra charge for luggage?
– Are you sure it’s necessary?

Explanation: Yes, low-cost airlines allow you to carry only hand luggage for free - this is the “payback” for low prices. But cheap travel isn't just done with a backpack on your back. It could be a standard suitcase 55 x 40 x 20 + a not too stuffed backpack (read the conditions of transportation) - isn’t that enough, even if you’re traveling for 2-3 weeks? Well, the issue with liquids is easily solved with the help of travel kits.

6. Correct accommodation reservation

– The next stage is accommodation. Your actions?
– It’s definitely Booking here, it’s on everyone’s lips.

Explanation: Booking is good, especially when it returns 1000 rubles or 10% of the entire amount spent (choose what is more profitable for you) from a booking, but the best search engine is RoomGuru, which monitors the databases of Booking, Agoda, and a dozen other systems. Hotels, motels, guesthouses - come here for it all. When looking for inexpensive accommodation in Europe, pay attention to hostels. In some parts of Asia you should avoid them, but in the West they are quite decent.

Do you want authenticity and immersion in foreign life and culture? Rent an apartment/room/house on Airbnb! The service is very beneficial for long trips or with a group of 3 or more people. Here is a promo code for $32 >> for the first reservation, and here is -

7. Schengen visa on your own

- Will they give you Schengen? The agency offered to take out insurance against non-issue.
- Wait, what agency?

Explanation: if you live in Moscow/St. Petersburg, going to an intermediary when there is a consulate nearby is simply blasphemy and a violation of the budget tourism code! In the regions, you should also contact an authorized visa center rather than an agency. Collect the package of documents yourself and don’t forget the appropriate photo ↓

8. Cheap travel + savings on hotel costs

– How else can you travel around Europe cheaply? You mentioned that you can “travel”...

Explanation: when the plane is beyond the purse's control, the above-mentioned one can help out - most often the drivers quote an adequate price. For example, 12 euros for the Berlin-Prague route.

Another option - I warn you, for some it is uncomfortable - is night buses (etc.) and trains: you move to another country and save on hotel costs.

9. Pay attention to the airport

– Okay, okay, then I’ll take Vilnius-Paris.
– Attention! Underwater rock!

Explanation: some unscrupulous airlines (and the inattention of tourists) turn a cheap vacation into an expensive one with just one detail - a generalization of the city of arrival. For example, you see Paris on the ticket, but you no longer notice what is in brackets - BVA airport. And to get from this BVA to the capital is about an hour by car for 20 euros (my case)! So turn on the meticulous paranoid and look with a magnifying glass :)

This is the view when approaching Barcelona airport

10. Discounts and promotions on tours and tickets

  • Promotional codes for tours - a nice 1-3% discount on Onlinetours, triggered when you click on
  • Last minute tours - scroll through the feed of the same name on
  • – they allow you to fly to Europe cheaply, literally for pennies (Barcelona for 6000 round trip? :)). Aggregators don’t always find them, so ↓

You know how to travel to Europe cheaply? And we know. There is one secret that we learned about from a conversation with the conductor in the vestibule of the Moscow-Kaliningrad train. Turns out,You can get to Europe for just 1,500 rubles. How - read on.

How to travel to Europe cheaply

The algorithm is like this:

  1. Buy a ticket for the Yantar train (Moscow - Kaliningrad) to Nesterov station.
  2. Get off the train at Vilnius station.
  3. Transfer to a plane/train/bus and go wherever you need to within the European Union.

That's the whole secret. Of course, you will have to spend one night in a reserved seat, but you will spend only one and a half thousand rubles. Then you can look for a plane ticket to Europe ( ) and fly where you need to.

Nesterov is the station closest to the border with Lithuania in the Kaliningrad region.

Now let's talk about the details andpitfalls, which are found on this railway track.

The cashier may say that there are no tickets, but in reality they are simply filling the carriages with passengers to Kaliningrad. Try coming another day, refer to the data from the official website, etc.

Why should I go to Vilnius?

Once you get to Europe you can go anywhere. The Schengen visa is valid throughout the European Union. Moving within Europe costs much cheaper than when crossing the borders of the eurozone. Travel by any available means to any city. You can immediately transfer to another train or plane - the airport in Vilnius is not far from the station.

Do I need a visa

Of course it is necessary. You must obtain a tourist Schengen visa according to all the rules. For more information about obtaining a visa, read the section Otherwise you will not be able to get off in Vilnius. Even if the conductor lets you onto the platform, you still won’t get away from it - the border guards won’t let you out.

The visa must be issued at the visa centers of the Republic of Lithuania.

To obtain a visayou will need a train ticket. It doesn’t matter what it says there, that the ticket is to Nesterov. You get off in Vilnius, indicate this in the application form and there will be no problems with the visa.

For ordinary transit passengers to the Kaliningrad region, a special visa is provided that allows travel through Lithuania. It is issued directly on the train after departure. But the way you applied for Schengen, you don’t need a transit card.

How to buy a ticket

You cannot buy a train ticket from Moscow to Kaliningrad online. Only at the box office and only with a foreign passport.

In Moscow, tickets for the Moscow - Kaliningrad train are sold only at the Belorussky railway station.

Take yours international passport and go to anyRussian Railways ticket office. After you buy your tickets, you will be informed that no earlier than 28 hours later you must come to the ticket office again and obtain permission to transit through Lithuania. This is not a visa, it is just an additional document to the ticket. But permission is required.

If at the time of purchasing tickets you have a valid Schengen visa, then you do not need permission, you already have it.

Please note that a ticket from Moscow to Vilnius on the same train costs 4,500 rubles.

Why is that? Because Russian Railways has different tariffs for domestic and international transportation. When you buy a ticket to the Kaliningrad region, this is a domestic fare, when to Europe it is an international fare. Therefore, you need to buy specifically in the Kaliningrad region.

How to pass passport control

Tell it like it is. The conductor, when he sees your ticket, will understand everything himself - they have a lot of them. If he asks again, answer honestly - yes, I’ll get out in Vilnius. We learned about this method from the guide, so there are no problems here.

Lithuanian border guards will ask where you are going. This is a mandatory protocol question. You need to answer honestly - to Vilnius. No one is interested in what’s on your ticket, so no problem.

In Vilnius, at the exit from the platform there ispassport control. There you will show your passport with a valid Schengen visa. You will say that the purpose of the visit is tourism. That's it - you are in Europe.

How to go home

You should already have your return ticket with you. You can't buy it in Europe. It is better to buy directly to Nesterov and back. With a ticket from Nesterov in Vilnius you will be put on a trainno problem— there are a lot of passengers boarding there. The conductors have no reason not to let you on the train.

If something goes wrong, refer to the internal document of Russian Railways: FPDOP-03/347.

It says:

To improve the quality of passenger service, passengers are allowed to board at any station after the departure station indicated on the ticket, subject to the validity of the ticket and payment of the fare along the route.

1. Travel on your own!

The first (and most important) law: do not be afraid. It's simple, it's interesting, it's cheap. Some people cannot even imagine that it is possible to travel abroad without the involvement of agencies and other organizations - they believe that this is the only way to guarantee their safety. But in the end, they either get a boring vacation, mostly in a lying position, or spend incredible amounts on a more or less non-standard vacation. Traveling on your own is not only possible, but also necessary! Only an independent trip can be considered a real trip; everything else is a tourist holiday. Anyone can organize a great trip for themselves, you just need to show a little independence. Look at ours in different countries and cities.

In our opinion, it is especially interesting to travel by car (personal or rented) - complete freedom of movement! If you are interested in this option, read our tips about. Traveling is also amazing!

2. Find the cheapest flights

The ability to find and book airline tickets at the lowest price is the most necessary skill for budget travel. The main rule that must always be remembered is that the earlier the purchase is made, the greater the chances of finding an attractively priced option. Ours will help you become a real master of finding the cheapest air tickets. It makes sense to keep track of the current ones on our website and look at ours in a particular country or city.

Also, be sure to read about how - in this material we talked about schemes for budgetary access to European countries bordering Russia. In addition, we advise you to find out about flights that allow you to fly for amounts close to zero (purchasing tickets for 20/30/40 euros will not be a problem).

The best way to look for flights is on the Skyscanner metasearch engine - it will find you the best deals on any route. This is a good assistant for independent travelers, since it searches for tickets among hundreds of airlines and does not take a single ruble of commission from the buyer. The search engine makes it possible to look at the cost of tickets to any country from all cities of Russia (or any other country) at once - a very convenient function for budget travelers, it allows you to find an option at the best price.

3. Apply for visas yourself

Why resort to the help of an intermediary and pay him double or triple the amount for this? You don’t turn to the help of agents if you want to buy something in a supermarket, so you don’t need to here either. After all, we are going to travel economically, and not to improve the well-being of strangers.

Find information on the Internet about the nearest consulate or visa center of the desired country, collect all the required documents and go to them. Many people believe that it is more reliable to do it through an agency, as it is supposedly less likely to be denied a visa. This is a misconception, since the whole mission of these intermediaries is that they will take the documents to the consulate instead of you. Tips on how to properly collect documents to increase your chances of getting a visa can be easily found on the Internet. Our website also has options for a number of popular destinations.

4. Search and book accommodation correctly

To make travel cheap, you need to find inexpensive accommodation. You can use the excellent metasearch engine Roomguru.ru and choose the right hotel according to your criteria and reasonable price. This resource compares prices among different booking agencies and finds the best deals. Large database of hotels, hostels, guest houses and so on. We recommend reading our tips on how to.

An alternative to hotels is the popular private housing rental service Airbnb.ru. Try to find an apartment or house for your trip. It is much more comfortable and often cheaper (especially if you travel with a group or family). The service has a huge selection of unique accommodation (beautiful apartments, villas and even residential boats and castles!), living in which will make your trip much more enjoyable and memorable.

And for those who generally want to live for free, the resource Couchsurfing is vital, where after registering and creating a personal profile you can find people ready to host travelers. The network reaches millions of users around the world.

5. Travel light

Take only what you really need - don’t burden yourself with unnecessary baggage. As a result, there are a number of advantages: there is no need to wait a long time for baggage claim, there is no threat of losing it, you don’t have to pay for excess weight (and with low-cost airlines, in general, any baggage is always paid separately and can cost you up to hundreds of euros), and you can also move around the airport and Your destination will be much easier and more enjoyable if you don’t have to lug around huge suitcases and bags. We even fly to Asia for six-month winters with only one backpack per person.

Read also our tips on formation. By the way, we recommend making purchases on Aliexpress (we order camping equipment, equipment, and numerous accessories there) - it turns out to be much more profitable than shopping in regular stores. Pay attention to reviews to choose the best product. Another good store for sporting and travel goods is Decathlon (where we bought a tent, hiking clothes and other equipment for trips to Altai and the Caucasus).

6. Find out about airport transfers in advance

A taxi is always the most expensive way to travel; it is much more profitable to use public transport: bus, metro, train. Read about all the possible options before departure - this way you will save a lot of money.

However, sometimes it is more convenient and cheaper to use an individual transfer - for example, when you are traveling in a large group and order a multi-seater car. For these cases, we can recommend a reliable service. Even better, rent a car straight from the airport (you can find the best deal on Skyscanner Car Hire).

7. Overnight transfer instead of a hotel

Traveling at night on trains and buses will make travel cheaper. This is a good opportunity to save time and money on a hotel at the same time. It’s better to take first class tickets - you’ll have to pay a little extra, but you’ll be comfortable and get a good night’s sleep. Traveling on buses is not so convenient, so it is better not to overdo it and not plan daily night trips - your body will swear. However, in some places there are slipper buses, the peculiarity of which is recumbent soft shelves instead of standard seats (we have made night trips to these cities more than once). This is definitely a great option for budget travel without losing comfort.

It is also convenient to travel around Russia by train for short distances, choosing overnight journeys. For example, we traveled from St. Petersburg to Moscow, from Perm to Kazan - the journey took exactly one night, we slept well. There are many route options. You can find and book a train ticket at.

8. Use discounts

Groupon gives you the opportunity to buy coupons with significant discounts on a variety of things and events: restaurants, shops, entertainment, attractions, outdoor activities, etc. If you are a student, a young teacher, or you are simply under 30 years old, then it makes sense to get yourself a card ISIC, ITIC or IYTC. In Europe and North America you can use them to get good discounts in a variety of places - from cafes to museums.

9. Save on communications

Use Skype or Viber to communicate with Russia. Connect to local operators for local calls and 3G Internet. By the way, you can use Skype to call any landline and mobile phone numbers - these calls are paid, but inexpensive (for example, we used this opportunity to call from Vietnam to Russia and unblock a Sberbank card).

10. Use travel tickets

Find out about the city transport ticket system. Typically, there are many types of passes depending on the type of transport, validity period and travel zones. Think about what type of ticket is most suitable for you. If you want to save money and decide to travel like a hare, keep in mind that in many countries (especially in Europe) the fines for free riders are very high.

Also in many popular tourist cities there are special museum cards, which provide discounts on visiting attractions and allow you to skip queues.

11. Organize your own excursions

It is always cheaper to get to the place you are interested in without the participation of agencies and guides, and besides, you create your own visiting program - there is no need to adapt to a given schedule and rhythm.

12. Eat at local establishments

Eating while traveling is both cheap and tasty! Restaurants aimed at tourists always raise their prices. And in the places that the residents themselves prefer, you will find real national cuisine, the lowest prices and the most delicious dishes. If you see a lot of local visitors in a restaurant or cafe, it means they have excellent food - feel free to come in too!

Europe is beautiful. There are so many beautiful and interesting places in a small area - this is a real paradise for tourists. Another thing is that traveling around Europe is quite expensive and not everyone can afford it. But there are ways to save money when traveling around Europe, thanks to which you can easily visit the entire Old World;) .

Megabus. The cheapest way to see the whole of the UK is by bus. Tickets from the very north of the country to London cost just £10 (approximately €12). There are a lot of routes, tickets to some cities cost less than 5 pounds sterling (approximately 6 euros). You can also travel to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and some other European cities for £15 (approximately €18) using this campaign.

Book your tickets as soon as possible, at least a month in advance, then you will get a seat on the bus at the lowest prices, the closer to the departure date, the more expensive. Official website where you can find out more and order tickets.

Busabout. You buy a bus ticket and travel throughout Europe. There are different types of tickets. One at a time, you can move between European cities, getting off the bus at the place where you want, there can be 6-9 such stops. Alternatively, you can simply drive along a popular tourist route. The routes are both regional (one country or one region) and throughout Europe, stopping in major cities.

You can buy a ticket for $700 and see a lot of new places. This method of transportation is quite cheap. If you visited all places on the bus route with the help of other road carriers, you would spend 30-60% more money. But Busabout has a drawback - with a ticket you can only visit those places that are on their route. If you want to visit another city, you will have to buy a ticket from another company.

Budget airlines. How to travel around Europe cheaply? Yes, this way. There are budget airlines where you can buy a ticket for 20 euros. You can also buy a ticket only for the price of fees and taxes. For example, from Bristol (England) you can fly to Milan (Italy) for 19 euros. But remember that you are only buying a seat on the plane and nothing more. Food, drinks and entertainment not included. The most famous low-cost airlines are Transavia, EasyJet, Ryanair and Vueling.

If you want to find the cheapest tickets, book at least a month before departure. The largest number of such tickets are offered in the off-season, when the influx of tourists is minimal. Carefully read the terms of sale of tickets from low-cost carriers, they like to write very important points in small print, most of which are fees that you need to pay additionally, it may turn out that these fees will be so high that it will be cheaper to buy a ticket “with comfort” from another airline. But if you are careful, such tickets can help you visit many European cities for little money.

Eurail Pass. Rail travel subscription. If you are going to visit many European countries located far from each other, then rail transport will help save money. By purchasing a subscription, the total cost of the trip will decrease by several hundred euros; the greater the distance traveled, the better the subscription pays for itself.

Eurolines. Using the buses of this company, you can travel throughout all European countries for little money. This is the unification of bus companies from each country into a single whole, which makes travel more comfortable and cheaper. It will be cheaper to travel to neighboring countries by bus; by train the ticket price is 2-3 times higher.

Hitch-hiking. The cheapest way to travel :) . But here, depending on your luck, you can catch a car in 10 minutes, or you can stand for three hours just like that. Also think about whether you can get into the car with this person or wait for the next car.

Carpooling. A method of transportation reminiscent of hitchhiking. An important difference is that passengers chip in on gas and tolls (if you drive on the autobahn). By paying very little money, you can travel very long distances.

Using these methods of transportation, you can travel around Europe very cheaply. Plan your trip in advance and buy tickets at least a month before the departure date, then you will get the cheapest tickets. Travel around Europe on your own and enjoy life :) . All the best!

We have prepared material with all the tips, life hacks and tips that will help you discover holidays in Europe inexpensively and conveniently.

1. Flight

Example:

If you wanted to go to, but tickets cost €200, then why not visit, for example, if you can now buy tickets there for €133? At the same time, planning a visit to Madrid next year and 60-70% cheaper.

Another way to travel around Europe cheaply is to look at flights not only to the main airport, but also to nearby ones. For example, a flight from Kyiv to Kiev usually costs €140-180, and to Bratislava – several times cheaper. And not everyone knows that you can get from Bratislava to Vienna by bus in an hour and about €10:

2. Accommodation

With the visa-free regime, the number of trips for weekends or several days has naturally increased, especially to excursion cities. Previously, for any European trip you had to collect documents, pay a consular fee and wait for a visa, but now you can find cheap tickets and easily fly away for the weekend, for example, to or. Typically, on such trips, travelers try to get maximum impressions in a minimum of time, and therefore only come to hotels to spend the night.

Is it worth booking an expensive hotel in this case? We advise you to save money on accommodation and choose a simpler option: guesthouses and apartments are often cheaper than hotels, and in a hostel you can find a double room just as good, but for much less money.

Example: weekend in Budapest in September for two

The cost of 2 nights in a 4* hotel will cost you €222 for a double room - this is already a price with a 28% discount.

At the same time, for these dates you can rent an entire apartment for only €70 - three times cheaper!

3. Food

To get acquainted with national cuisine, you can choose a good establishment, but in general, if you are going to an expensive place, it is better to immediately find out about inexpensive chain cafes. Let's say, in Spain, dinner in an average restaurant will cost €15-20 per person, but in Sweden or Norway you will have to pay €35-40 for it. There are also always supermarkets that will help you save a lot on food - by the way, they often sell ready-made food.

4. Excursions and attractions

It’s one thing if you want to discover a new city by simply walking around it and enjoying the atmosphere, and another thing if you have a whole list of excursion sites that you would like to visit. It makes sense to select several objects to begin with and not try to go through everything at once. The cost of entry to many large European museums can reach up to €20 - for that kind of money you will probably want to take a closer look at everything without rushing.

  • Always find out in advance about specific places that interest you: many cities have museum days when you can visit a particular object for free. The same may apply to holidays and private promotions.

Example:

Every first Sunday of the month there is free admission to state museums, and on the last Sunday of the month you can visit the Vatican Museum for free.

  • Popular tourist cities have so-called City Cards, which help you save on transport, excursions, visiting attractions and other leisure activities.

Example:

The Vienna City Card (red card) costs €13.90/€21.90/€24.90 (for 24, 48 or 72 hours) and includes free travel on the metro, trams and buses and more than 210 discounts on everything – from landmarks to traditional establishments. For comparison: only a ticket for 1 journey on Viennese transport costs €2.2.

And the Vienna City Card + Big Bus Vienna (red card) costs €28/€31/€35 and includes over 210 discounts, a guided city tour and a 1-day Hop On Hop Off tourist bus ticket. For comparison: just a 1-day ticket on the Hop On Hop Off bus costs €25.

  • If this is your first time in the city, then find out about free excursions - Free Walking Tours, which are often organized in popular cities. Typically, such a tour lasts 1-3 hours, during which you are told basic information about the city and taken to the main places - you couldn’t imagine a better way to get to know the city for the first time.

Be prepared to be asked at the end for a small fee for the guide - and it will still be cheaper than a paid excursion.

5. Communication

Call Uber, arrange a trip with a local guide, call and find out the operating hours of a particular place, call friends or family - all this requires mobile communications and the Internet abroad. Of course, some tourists manage to solve all their problems using the free Internet in the hotel, but it is better not to limit yourself to this. Especially if there is an emergency and you urgently need communication, it is better to have a phone at hand than to frantically invent a way to call somewhere.

Choose the method of communication abroad depending on where you are going - you need to familiarize yourself with local tariffs, travel-sim tariffs and compare with your operator’s roaming to understand what is more profitable.

Example:

A SIM card from a local operator will cost you about €30 (a little more than 870 UAH) - but you need to be prepared for the fact that when buying a SIM card in Italy you will definitely need a passport, and activation of all services may take 1-2 days - yes, No one is in a hurry here, get used to it.

For comparison: the roaming service from Kyivstar is activated automatically when crossing the border. Subscribers pay only for those mobile communication services that they actually use. By actively using 3G Internet and calling friends and relatives in Ukraine, a traveler will spend only about 300-350 UAH (less than €12) in 5-7 days. All the same services with TravelSIM, which is popular in Ukraine (15 minutes of calls and 100 MB per day), in Italy will cost you about 900 hryvnia (a little more than €30) for a week’s trip.

If your hotel or hostel does not have the best Wi-Fi quality, you can always use your mobile Internet in the evening to post all the best photos from your trip to social networks, surf your favorite resources, or develop an action plan for the next day.
