Stand for “Bounty. Self-production of boats for the Bounty sailboat Customer service rules

While assembling HMS Victory I unexpectedly got stuck on the bars. I decided to make the gratings myself and already figured out how. I started assembling a milling table for my Dremel using scrap materials, and it suddenly broke. I took it to the service center for repairs...

While the production of the grilles was postponed indefinitely, I decided to work on my long-suffering HMS Bounty. All the necessary parts for finishing the cladding have already arrived and are safely on the shelf, waiting for their time. But to finish the plating on the Bounty, you need to mark the waterline, and for this the ship must stand level. It is not possible to place the ship level, since the publisher did not bother to produce a normal stand. I think it won't exist at all. After thinking about it, I ended up making a stand in the image of the Victoria stand.

First, I cut out and fitted templates from graph paper to the body.

Templates from graph paper

Then I assembled a model of the stand from packaging cardboard using these templates and tried the ship on it.

Cardboard stand model

The cardboard stand helped identify all the shortcomings. Having corrected them, I went to look for 4mm thick plywood. I probably didn’t look well, but I never found normal plywood in stores. They sell sheets 1500x1500mm. disgusting quality. For further research, normal plywood will be needed, so I put aside in my mind the question of finding a place to purchase aircraft plywood. And for the stand I used a piece of 4mm. plywood from an old cabinet that was found in the country. I cut out 3 blanks from this piece with a jigsaw and sanded them.

Plywood blanks

I cut the grooves and tried to pre-assemble them.

Pre-assembly of parts

It was raining outside the window

Pre-assembly of the stand

After fitting all the parts, I covered them with mahogany veneer.

And glued the stand together.

Stand assembled

Remembering, I covered the stand with a layer of varnish. Then I started cutting the name onto the front panel. I cut with a model knife for a couple of hours. First, I cut through the letter, then I cut off the paper template and carefully took out the excess with a knife blade.

Cutting the letter B

Letter B is ready

In 2 hours I cut through all the letters and numbers.

The inscription is cut out

This time I decided to fill in the letters with gold paint.

The inscription is filled with gold paint

When the paint had dried slightly, I carefully washed off the excess. It should be noted that it was not for nothing that I first decided to coat the stand with varnish - when I wiped off the excess, the paint hardly got into the wood texture. All that remains is to cover the ends of the stand with felt, but I will do that later.

Ready stand

After cutting out the inscription, I came to the conclusion that it would be better to do it using laser cutting. Well, or be a woodcarver 80 lvl. 😀 Although in my opinion it turned out quite well.

ABOUT HMS Bounty will always be remembered for the dramatic rebellion led by Fletcher Christian against the arrogant Bligh. After sailing to the island of Tahiti, Fletcher and his mutineers abandon Bligh and 18 of his loyal men in a boat in the middle of the ocean. Bligh survived 41 days on the open ocean before reaching Timor.

Contents of the ship model kit

The Spanish company Artesania Latina gives you the opportunity to make a large copy of this sailing ship in the Admiralty style. In this case, one of the sides of the model is not closed and you can see the internal structure of Bounty. The second side is completely closed, as befits a classic model. Essentially, you have two different styles in one set! You will fabricate all interior decks, bulkheads, stairs, doors, etc.

The left side of Bounty has paneling made of two types of wood. The upper part of the board is made of linden slats, the lower part is made of 2mm thick walnut. The starboard side has plating only at the bow and stern. The keel, frames and other wooden parts are already cut out. The Bounty wooden ship model has a huge amount of metal parts, including a bow figure and stern decorations. All blocks and deadeyes, masts and yards, sails and rigging, flags, all this is also included in the set. In this set, even the lifeboat is made in composites (keel + frames) and also in the Admiralty style! Four huge, wonderful and detailed sheets of drawings and 32 pages of color photographs of all stages of model assembly will help you make this masterpiece. In addition, we attach translation of instructions into Russian with our notes and advice. Many evenings of exciting work will be rewarded with the admiration of your family and friends.

This simple web page is used to visualize your joystick buttons and axes.
Yep, there are only a few widgets, but the layout still may be complex enough.

There is direct link to the preset shown above:

As it utilizes javascript Gamepad API, it can support up to 4 devices.
It"s highly recommended to use Chrome-based web browser since Firefox doesn"t see all possible axes.

Important notice. The Joystick Visualizer does not store your personal data, nor uses cookies. All presets you"d made are stored at your web-browser local storage.

The visualizer was (in primary) created for using while playing Elite: Dangerous. Of course, it may also be used in other various simulator games. My friend CMDR requested visualizator that is as much flexible as possible to freely support his 2 joysticks with throttle and pedals setup.

This visualizer is good at use as a "Browser" source in OBS application.
I asked CMDR to give me a sight on his experience of using the visualizer with OBS. Here is his comprehensive answer:

Using Joystick Visualizer in OBS.

Step 1. Configure widgets.
- go to a.site/joystick/
- double click anywhere to add widget. You may use buttons, hats, labels and single or double axis widgets.
- configure widgets. Double click on widget, set label(s) and joystick(s) and axis number(s). These numbers you can find using the "Joysticks" menu.
- configure general settings like shadows, colors etc.
- save your settings.

Step 2. OBS.
Well, you will need to experiment a bit with settings to achieve decent results.

Disclaimer: These are mine personal recommendatons. They work for me, your mileage may vary.

At first, choose a proper color for your chroma key background. The usual acid green is not always the best option. We"ll need a bit of theory here.

The ChromaKey technology works as a dynamic mask determined by the color. This color is filtered out by software during the video processing and all areas of that color are considered as transparent.
This works very well with sharp-edged objects, where we have a distinct border between the colors. But if you have any kind of antialiasing, shadows or edge feathering involved, things are more complicated because of the process called "color spill" which is basically a blending of the colors at the edges of an object. To minimize this effect you need to choose the chroma key color which is:
a) opposite to the color of the object
b) not very bright
Some numbers to illustrate this:
Every color is composed from 3 basic color channels - Red, Green and Blue. In 24 bit color palette each color value can be from 0 to 255 (or from 00h to FFh in hexadecimal notation)

#ff7100 - this is the code for orange color of Elite Dangerous. As you can see, it consists of 255 (FFh) Red, 113 (71h) Green and 0 (00h) Blue. Since orange this color does not contain Blue channel at all, a kind of blue chroma key color will be easiest to remove and is the best choice for orange widgets. Also, it should not be too bright, because the dull colors "spill" less. The shade of blue with code #000080 shoud work just fine.

Chroma key color should be set in "Settings" menu of Teall Joystick site. Save your configuration and then use "Export" in the "Save" dialog. You will see the "Direct link" option, copy that link.

Now we need to add this to OBS.

In OBS add new "Browser" source.
Insert the link that you have copied from the website to the "URL" field and set desired browser window size. I recommend to start with the size of your video frame and than reduce it to the minimal required dimensions later. When you click OK, you should see your widgets in the OBS along with chroma key background. Now we need to remove it.

Right click on browser you have just created and choose "Filters". Click on "+" an add "Chroma Key" fiter.
Set "Key Color Type" to "Custom" and choose chroma key color either by using palette\number fields or color picker.

Now is the time for fine tuning.
Set "Similarity", "Smoothness" and "Key Color Spill Reduction" to minimum.
"Similarity" is how close to the base color you want OBS to remove. Adjusting this slider will allow OBS to remove wider chroma key color variations of the screen. Make sure not to increase this so much that some parts of your widget is being removed too.
Adjust "Similarity" so you can see the widgets clearly with minimal residue of chroma key color. It should be small value in our case since we have very uniform key color.
“Smoothness” works in tandem with “Similarity” in trying to make sure that the filter isn’t too harsh. You shouldn’t have to move this to a large degree. Use it to hone in on the perfect amount of what’s left on the screen.
"Spill Reduction" applies to the edges of what the filter is and isn’t removing from the screen. If you"re noticing some key color residue on the edges of your widgets, move this slider to remove it.
Most probably, you will need to disable shadows in the website settings to get better results. This largely depends on the color schemes used though.

Step 3. Final adjustments.
As the last steps, adjust widgets placing (you will need to save new settings and apply new URL to the OBS browser) and OBS browser overlay size. After the overlay size has been roughly set, you may crop the overlay instead of resize by holding "Alt" key while adjusting overlay borders.
Please note, that chromakey processing is a tough computational task, so you will need a computer with a decent CPU to avoid lags and framedrops.

As always, Joystick Visualizer is completely free for use and copy. If you like it, feel free to donate =) Following the success of the magazine with the assembly of the Bismarck, which I wrote about in the article, a new magazine has appeared - now it is proposed to assemble the Bounty sailing ship.

As always, we have a price difference - the first issue costs 49 rubles, the second issue costs 99, and each subsequent issue costs 199 rubles.
A total of 52 issues of the Sailboat Bounty magazine are planned.

We count: 50 issues at 199 rubles is 9950, and also 99 and 49, the total is 10098 rubles only for magazines. You also need model paint, glue, and so on.

The publication frequency of the Sailboat Bounty magazine is once a week; you will need to pay 800 rubles a month. Moreover, it is not a fact that prices for the magazine will not increase. The same Bismarck has risen in price quite a bit after the 5th issue.

Isn't it better download drawings of the sailboat Bounty and build it yourself?

Here is an example of what can be built from paper:

Download paper drawings of the sailboat Bounty Can . 26 sheets to assemble! This paper model is not for one evening! :)

And here is an example of building a sailboat Bounty from wood.

Download drawings of the sailboat Bounty made of wood Can . This drawing will allow you to make a Bounty model on a scale of 1:60, the dimensions of the sailboat model are as follows: length 720 mm, height 550 mm.

Which model of the Bounty sailboat to build - wooden or paper - decide for yourself. A paper model is easier to build, but a wooden one has a more replica-like appearance.

By the way, in the video that is on the site there is a mistake; they claim that they put him in a boat, although in fact it was a longboat. The longboat usually has a length of 12.2 m, a beam of 3.66 m, a displacement of 4-5 tons, and is equipped with a retractable bowsprit (for the jib) and two masts (for the foresail and mainsail).
On the ship, the longboat was located on the barring between the foremast and the mainmast.

So, as you can see, they gave me a very real boat, almost a yacht :)

And here is that same video:

And finally, a little history about the sailing ship Bounty.

The Bounty is a three-masted ship with a total displacement of 215 tons, launched from the slipways at Deptford in 1787 as a merchant ship. On December 23, 1787, the rebuilt Bounty, under the command of Lieutenant William Bligh, set sail for Tahiti to deliver breadfruit seedlings to Jamaican plantations.

On October 26, 1788, the Bounty arrived in Tahiti, and on April 4, 1789, it set sail. However, on April 28, 1789, a mutiny occurred on the ship, as a result of which the assistant captain Fletcher Christian seized power on the ship, landed William Bligh and the remaining crew members loyal to him on a 7-meter longboat, and he led the Bounty back to Tahiti.

Since it was dangerous for the rebels to remain in Tahiti for a long time (sooner or later a punitive expedition would come for them), Fletcher Christian decided to go in search of an uninhabited island where the Royal Navy could not find him.

On January 23, 1790, the Bounty, which carried 8 crew members (the remaining 16 remained in Tahiti and 14 of them were arrested by the punitive expedition of HMS Pandora), 6 Tahitian men, 11 Tahitian women and one child, became the first inhabitants of Pitcairn Island.

The stay of the rebels on Pitcairn Island was a kind of retribution. Life on the island was harsh. Envy gave rise to violence and death. But despite these problems and the accompanying difficulties in the struggle for existence, the “colony” survived. Subsequently, the descendants of these settlers received the right to settle on Norfolk Island in 1856.

The fate of William Bligh: In seven weeks full of hardships and trials, Bligh and his companions traveled 5,800 kilometers on their 7-meter longboat. Heading northwest, they passed the islands now known as Fiji, then sailed to the east coast of New Holland (Australia) and eventually found salvation on the island of Timor. Now this island belongs to Indonesia and is located about 6,000 kilometers west of the place where they were left. When Bligh returned to England, two ships were placed at his disposal. And he again went to Tahiti for breadfruit seedlings. This time (it was in 1792) he managed to bring 700 seedlings to the West Indies - to the island of St. Vincent and Jamaica. Breadfruit trees with lush green crowns grow there to this day, bearing golden fruit in abundance.

But upon his return to England, he received a cold reception at the Admiralty. In his absence, a trial was held, where the former rebels brought charges against the captain and won the case (in the absence of Bligh). The main evidence of the events on the ship was the diary of James Morrison, who was pardoned, but longed to wash away the shame of the rebel from the name of the family. The diary contradicts the ship's log and was written after the events. These notes became the basis for the novel and subsequent film adaptations. Captain Bligh died in 1817 with the rank of vice admiral; the newspapers with his obituary did not mention the episode of the uprising on the Bounty.

HMS Bounty will always be remembered for the dramatic mutiny led by Fletcher Christien against the arrogant Bligh. After sailing to the island of Tahiti, Fletcher and his mutineers abandon Bligh and 18 of his loyal men in a boat in the middle of the ocean. Bligh survived 41 days on the open ocean before reaching Timor.

Ship drawing

Proposed ship drawings made on a scale of 1:60, which gives the model a length of 720 mm. On four drawings format 90x70 cm you will find full-size side views of the ship under sail, a top view of the deck, a view from the stern and bow, patterns of frame parts of the ship model, drawings of the spar, and individual components. TO ship drawings 24-page step-by-step instructions are included. Instructions in English. In total, it contains more than 150 diagrams for assembling the model. The main materials required to build a model of this ship: plywood 4 and 1 mm thick; linden slats 1.5x6 mm and walnut 0.5x4 mm; guns about 40 mm long (AM4169 guns, 4 pieces are suitable), light threads 0.5 and 1 mm.
