Playa de las Americas Tenerife Spain. Open left menu las americas. Where to eat in Playa de las Americas

Playa de las Amerikas is the largest and most popular resort in the south of Tenerife. Every year thousands of travelers choose this place for their vacation. And this is no coincidence, since it has an excellent combination of quality beaches, developed infrastructure and hotels of different levels. Let’s try to figure out how to organize your vacation in Las Americas in this article.

Even though we did not live in Playa de Las America, we were regular visitors. After all, the entire resort life of the island is concentrated in it. There is a large selection of restaurants, cafes, many supermarkets, shopping centers and small shops. There are many tour agencies in this resort. And most importantly, it is easy to get to any city on the island from here.

Playa de Las Americas is 20 km away. and 80 km. from the capital of the island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Like many resort towns, it is represented by leisure facilities and hotel complexes. On one side, Las Americas borders (along Mount Chayofita), and on the other – with (along the bed of the Barranco de Troya River). True, this border is very arbitrary, since walking along the coast, you will not notice it. Currently, all three resorts have practically merged into one large tourist destination.

Las Americas began to actively develop since the 70s of the last century. It’s hard to imagine, but back then there was nothing here for tourists. The first Gran Tenerife hotel was built in 1971. Since then it has been updated and improved many times. It is still functioning and, if desired, you can spend your holidays there. Las Americas gradually expanded and new infrastructure appeared. The emergence of an airport in the south of Tenerife has breathed new strength into the resort.

Unlike other resorts, you can meet Russian tourists in Las Americas. Local entrepreneurs are also adapting to this factor and offering menus in Russian in cafes. Some of them even employ Russian-speaking employees. But in hotels, few people know Russian. So basic knowledge of English will come in handy, or, alternatively, the indispensable Google Translator.

Las Americas has a very beautiful and well-equipped promenade. Let's walk along it a little and see the surroundings. You can see a lot of people running on the embankment.

While you are walking, look around. Check out the creative sculpture in the photo above. There are also located right along the sea. They enjoy well-deserved attention from photographers.

Another creative embodiment of thought. There are benches along the embankment where you can sit down and take a break from your walk.

And this already looks like a stone sculpture created by nature itself. She reminds me of a lion.

Along the embankment you can also find children's playgrounds.

The Las Americas promenade is a cozy place. It is pleasant to walk here, breathe the sea air and admire the beautiful Canarian landscapes.

Weather

Las Americas is considered a year-round resort. But in winter it is not hot here at all. The average air temperature is 20-23 degrees, much hotter in the sun. There is almost no precipitation, the weather is good and sunny. Many people swim and sunbathe. But in winter the ocean cools down to 19 degrees. Those who like to bathe in hot water will not have a very comfortable bathing experience. Swimming pools, which are found in almost every hotel, come to the rescue. But the tan goes well in winter. Peak season in Las Americas is July-August, when the holiday season begins for many Europeans. If you don't want crowds, it's best to avoid these months.

Entertainment and attractions

There are no historical attractions in the young resort, but there is entertainment for every taste and budget. Las Americas is considered the most party place on the island, as there are many nightclubs and bars concentrated here. Therefore, it is here that young people often go on vacation. The noisiest places are located near hotels and. But older people prefer quieter resorts.

The main attractions of the resort include:

  1. with a variety of water slides and attractions.
  2. A calmer Aqualand, which is more suitable for children.
  3. The medieval castle of San Miguel, where you can go on a tour.

Theme parks nearby:

  1. Jungle park
  2. Monkey park
  3. Camel park (camel park)

On the beach you can ride a jet ski or banana boat, and in the evening listen to live music in one of the restaurants. Part of the vacation can be spent on. You can get to know some of it yourself.

Shopping

Shopping lovers should visit Avenida de Las Americas, where the Parque Santiago II and Safari shopping centers are located. This avenue is also called the “golden mile” because all the world's brands are represented on it.

And after shopping, you can get a vivid impression in the Pyramid of Arona concert hall, created in antique style, or have dinner in one of the cafes. In the evening the avenue is illuminated by the lights of the singing fountain. But don’t expect a grand show like in Barcelona, everything is simple here.

Hotels and apartments

The resort has many hotels of different levels. I have made a selection of good hotels and apartments by category depending on your budget.

High level hotels:

  • Las madrigueras is a small new hotel with architecture in the form of a monarch's residence. Not suitable for families with children, but would be an excellent choice for golfers
  • Cleopatra palace is a hotel with a great location, delicious food and excellent service.
  • Mediterranean Palace is a luxurious hotel with a cozy atmosphere, a large swimming pool and a spa complex. It's just a couple of minutes walk to the beach.

Cheap hotels:

  • Catalonia Oro Negro
  • Hotel Caledonia Udalla park
  • Hotel Central center

Beaches and photos

One of the most popular beaches is the beach of the same name, Playa de las Americas. This is a wide beach with all the necessary infrastructure.

Next to it is Playa Honda Beach. Its main disadvantages are waves and pebbles.

And the last beach, Playa del Caminson, is located closer to Los Cristianos. It is protected on both sides by embankments, so the ocean here is calm, without waves. The beach is covered with yellow sand brought from the Sahara. This beach is often chosen by families with children who relax at the resort. Those who like to sit still can take a ride on water transport.

How to get there

The nearest Southern Airport can be reached by bus No. 111, No. 450, No. 343. The latter can also be used to get to the Northern Airport, located near Santa Cruz de Tenerife. If public transport is not suitable for you for one reason or another, you can book an inexpensive taxi in advance or rent a car right at the airport.

Map

On the map below you will find the main attractions and beaches of Tenerife. The map will be useful when planning your trip.

Las Americas is a modern resort center in Tenerife with good infrastructure and a variety of entertainment, next to wide sandy beaches. This is the largest, youngest and most popular resort in Tenerife. As a large settlement, it is the oldest city on the island. As Playa de Las Americas has grown in just the last 30 years, it has been designed and built to meet all the average European's requirements for a fashionable beach resort.

Location

Las Americas is located in an ideal location for a tourist center in Tenerife: on the south coast of the island, famous for its consistently warm and dry climate, as well as the best sandy beaches. The water off the coast here is almost always heated to more than +20°.

The beaches of Las Americas stretch for several kilometers. Initially, the southern coast of Tenerife was rocky and inconvenient for swimming. The purest fine sand for the eight beaches was specially brought from the Sahara Desert or raised from the ocean floor. And to protect the beaches from erosion, concrete breakwaters have been built everywhere. The calm ocean and gently sloping sandy bottom are ideal for swimming, even for small children.

Resort Features

Geographically, Las Americas is divided into two parts: the more lively and “party” Playa de Las Americas, and the more respectable and calm Costa Adeje, also known as the historical center. The conditional division of the districts runs along a dry river bed near the Esperia Troya Hotel.

Playa de Las Americas is a very beautiful, modern, well-groomed and incredibly clean city, the urban landscape of which is decorated with palm gardens going down to the very shore. And in the neighboring area of Costa Adeje it will be interesting to wander through the ancient streets among ancient elegant villas, temples and chapels. This is a typical European seaside resort. But for real island flavor you need to go to the town of San Juan (in the southwest of Tenerife) or to the northern Puerto de La Cruz.

Things to do in Las Americas

There are many opportunities for active recreation: jet skis, scooters, banana boats, etc. You can take a boat trip with or without fishing on yachts, sailboats, catamarans, of which there are many in the sports port of Puerto Colon. There are two water parks, nightclubs, casinos, discos, restaurants, colorful costume shows are regularly held - knightly tournaments, variety shows, flamenco-style parties, Spanish ballet.

So, if you have chosen Las Americas as your holiday destination, you can book an apartment or villa here. The price of an apartment (for 4 beds) in the center of the resort near the beach starts from 600 euros per week, and renting a small villa with two bedrooms 1000 m from the beach will cost from 1000 euros per week.

Briefly about the main thing: the past and present of the resort.

Where is Playa de las Americas located?

Playa de las Americas is the main resort town of the island of Tenerife, which is part of the Canary archipelago. The tourist area is formed in the southern part of the municipality of Arona and borders Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. It is represented by modern sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast, restaurants, bars, and water entertainment complexes. The capital of the island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is located 75 km from Playa de las Americas, and Las Cañadas with the Teide volcano is 42 km away.

The population of Playa de las Americas is just over 10,000 inhabitants. The national currency is the euro (EUR).

Playa de las Americas. Historical reference

In the 1970s the flourishing north of Tenerife has ceased to cope with the influx of tourists. Unstable weather conditions with amplitude seasonal temperature fluctuations, high average annual precipitation and ocean disturbances “played” against it.

The southern, climate-friendly Playa de las Americas was founded on the site of fishing settlements as a major recreational center by a group of Spanish and foreign investors and rebuilt from scratch in just a few decades. In 1978, Tenerife South Airport was inaugurated 20 km away.

Today, the resort Playa de las Americas occupies a 6 km long coastline and offers all types of leisure activities on the water, in bars, restaurants, and entertainment centers. Translated, its name means “beach of America.” Thus, the Spaniards emphasized the significance of Amerigo Vespucci's journey and discovery.

Slightly pinkish shiny pavements, endless palm alleys and sandy beaches stretching beyond the horizon - this is how the Canarian landscapes look in the photo of Playa de las Americas. Photos of the streets of Playa de las Americas during the daytime convey the incredibly relaxing atmosphere of the island town, while photos of Playa de las Americas at night reflect its dynamic character. Every traveler in the cozy resort area will find something that suits their taste!

Detailed photos of the city of Playa de las Americas, photos of Playa de las Americas at night are selected from the best photo reports of travelers and photo calls of famous journalists.

What is the climate in Playa de las Americas?

The Canarians say that it is always spring in Playa de las Americas. Indeed, the location of the city in the south of Tenerife behind a chain of mountains that block the cold northeastern trade winds determines the warm tropical type of climate with minimal precipitation. The air temperature in Playa de las Americas ranges from +21 to +30°C throughout the year.

Here you can swim and sunbathe all year round. The unique climate of Playa de las Americas also determines the diversity of nature. The landscape of the area is represented by semi-deserts with picturesque cacti, areas of subtropical vegetation and green valleys.

Flora and fauna of Playa de las Americas

The tides in Playa de las Americas are very pronounced - something to keep in mind when planning your holiday. The difference in sea level in summer reaches one meter. The ebb and flow of the Atlantic Ocean does not create the illusion of complete withdrawal of water, but it complicates the passage of surfers in the evening and allows one to see the boulder relief near the breakwaters, which is not visible in the daytime.

Playa de las Americas is reliably protected from waves by a special system. This made it possible to turn the beaches of Playa del Duque and Playa de Torviscas into quiet, cozy oases. At the same time, due to the design features of the breakwaters in certain sections of the beach, the waves of the Atlantic Ocean reach the shore, creating ideal conditions for surfers to relax. Most of them are in the autumn and winter months on the beaches of Playa Honda and Playa de Troya.

There is no rainy season in Playa de las Americas. Maximum precipitation is observed in November-December (up to 5–9 rainy days per month, respectively). Parking is paid and small. No heated children's pool and poor playground. There were problems during check-in. The hotel program included 1 adult and a child, although the reservation was for 2 adults + 1 child. Moreover, the room was booked for three people!!! At night we found out why this was so. They asked me to make an additional payment for my husband. The story with the reservation is unclear, we travel a lot, but for such a problem to arise, this is the first time this has happened.

Room cleaning every day. Nice staff. Varied food, delicious breakfast and dinner. A lot of fruit. We traveled with a 1.5 year old child, so you can easily feed the child from the common table. Oatmeal for breakfast every day (ideal for a child). Wonderful location. View from the room. There are many shops nearby and a large, long promenade for walking.

“In general, I really liked the hotel, I took a room with a sea view, I didn’t hear any loud music from the clubs”

There are no wardrobes in the room, it is not very convenient to store clothes, this is the only negative for me.

The hotel staff is friendly, smiling and hardworking, there are 2 swimming pools on site, the top one is heated, there are enough sun loungers for everyone. Food at the hotel is a separate issue, we had lunch and breakfast in total, everything was high quality and fresh, meat, fish, fruits, baked goods.

I really enjoyed the food at the hotel restaurant. We had breakfast and dinner. The menu is varied and the dishes are deliciously prepared. Great location on the ocean. Beautiful view from the room, from any room. I recommend staying on the upper floors. All rooms have balconies at an angle to the ocean. There are Russian speaking staff at the reception. The room was cleaned every day. Over the course of eight days, the linen was changed twice. Towels were changed every day. Beautiful well-groomed hotel grounds.

“Soviet sanatorium with excellent service, delicious food and noisy neighbors”

  • . Rest
  • . Pair
  • . 9 nights stay

The hotel is located opposite the party street Veronikas, where English youth buzz at night. If everything looks innocent during the day, then from 10 pm each disco tries to outshout the other and the cacophony does not stop until 5 am. Through the balcony door, all sounds seep into the room and you get the feeling that you are also hanging out there. At first we lived with a gorgeous view on the 11th floor in building B, but due to the noise at night we asked for a quieter room. We were moved to the 6th floor in building A with a view in the other direction. It became quieter, but not significantly. The quietest rooms are in building B, where the windows face Los Cristianos. In general, the hotel urgently needs to change the windows or somehow deal with Veronikas Street. It won't be quiet. - The hotel is pretty shabby, it requires updating furniture, repairs, carpets in the corridors. At the same time, it retains its 4* status. Have you been to Crimean sanatoriums? Here he is somewhat reminiscent of them in appearance. That being said, the food and service are good. - The hotel does not have its own beach or at least its own area on one of the beaches with sun loungers

Food! - we had half board (dinner and breakfast), the impressions were only positive. Convenient visiting time, huge selection of dishes, delicious food, something new every day. When we checked out of the hotel at 5:30 in the morning, a restaurant was specially opened for us. Alcohol can be purchased for dinner (optional) for an additional fee. + Location – there are many good beaches, restaurants, nightlife nearby (if that interests you) + High-quality daily room cleaning + Each room has a balcony, air conditioning, refrigerator, good view (you can see the ocean from almost everywhere) + There are two large swimming pools, one of them they are heated (relevant for winter) + The hotel has a store with reasonable prices for food and souvenirs + In the parking lots adjacent to the hotel you can always find a parking space (we were there in January) + There are Russian-speaking staff (we are used to speaking English, but who cares? -it will be convenient) + We didn’t see the cockroaches that someone talks about in other reviews (again – we were there in January)

“We will definitely return to the Canaries - amazing places. Unfortunately, this hotel is not.”

  • . Rest
  • . Family with small children
  • . 7 nights stay

The hotel is very “tired”, this applies to the corridors and rooms: cosmetic repairs are clearly needed, at least replacing the carpets in the corridors - they are terrible in the corridors... the rooms are small, in my opinion they are not suitable for accommodating three people (a family with a child) ( It’s not obvious from the description and photo, although we took the most expensive room). The bathroom/toilet is also small, the bathtub really made me laugh, it’s very difficult for an average-sized person to sit in it, and the faucet/shower in the middle of the wall is like fire... but perhaps this was a feature of our room. The hotel itself is categorically designed for older people and is aimed at Europeans/foreigners who, as it seemed to me, are going there either under some of their own programs/vouchers/discounts or through some corresponding travel agencies and programs... this, in principle, is not good and not bad, although it was a bit of a surprise for us, but we didn’t get all the additional “buns” in the form of, for example, the possibility of accommodation on the upper floors (although we requested it in advance), or more or less interesting animation during the day/evening... in this We looked for connections and entertained ourselves outside the hotel, fortunately in Las Americas and Tenerife in general there are no problems with this, and if you have the finances, it’s generally great. In this regard, the hotel, except for tips for cleaning the room, renting a safe and a parking space (there is also a problem with this - the free ones at the hotel are almost always occupied - again, according to my feelings - by employees of the same hotel) did not spend anything.

The location of the hotel is good, directly on the promenade. There are plenty of cafes/restaurants/shops nearby - for every taste and budget. The views from the room to the ocean are very good, in my opinion, the rooms with a side view, if you compare those on the upper floors (>7) with the rooms up to the 6th but with a direct view of the ocean. If they knew this, they wouldn’t overpay, we got it on the 4th... The staff is very friendly, there is always a Russian-speaking employee at the reception (may be useful for those who do not speak English well enough). There are a couple of swimming pools, one is heated, which is important for the winter period (however, it’s normal/comfortable for a child - it was heated only once out of the 7 days of our stay... and it was quite cool) - but as a whole we weren’t in the hotel were there, it wasn’t too upsetting).
