What to use to catch crayfish in a crayfish trap. Why can't you catch crayfish? How and what to catch crayfish in summer

Probably every fisherman has caught a crayfish with a float rod. This underwater arthropod inhabitant grabbed the bait so firmly with one claw that it was easily removed from the water along with the gear.
I usually don’t catch crayfish this way specifically.

To catch a large number of arthropods, you need to purchase or make your own special device - a crayfish catcher. You can catch crayfish in this way wherever it lives. Very promising in this regard are those areas of reservoirs where you can find a large number of damaged and dead fish. They catch arthropods throughout the year, pausing only for the period of crayfish molting.

At this time, the meat of this arthropod is tasteless, and in some regions there is a ban on catching it at this time.

The advantage of catching crayfish on crayfish traps is the high efficiency of fishing, as well as the absence of constant monitoring of the trap.

Choosing a crayfish trap

There are several types of clamshells.
The simplest models consist of two hoops covered with mesh. A rope is tied to such devices, which is used to lift the crayfish out of the water.

Hoops do not have to be round. You can use square or oval models with the same success. Open type shells have a significant drawback.

Crayfish can easily leave such a trap after eating the bait, therefore, open crayfish traps require constant supervision, and traps must be checked several times within an hour.

A more complicated shell design is made of several hoops or squares with a fine mesh stretched between them. In this case, the inlet hole should be relatively small. Cancer, after it gets into such a trap, cannot always leave it on its own, even after the bait is completely eaten.

The advantage of using extended models is their autonomous operation. Such a trap can be left overnight and in the morning the arthropods caught in the trap can be collected.

The shells can be cylindrical in shape. Inside such a shell, in the middle, there are small holes for entry.

Such traps are most often made of hard plastic. The entire design of such a crayfish trap has small holes that allow the aroma of the bait to spread freely throughout the reservoir and prevent the crayfish from leaving the trap.

The cost of crayfish traps usually does not exceed several hundred rubles and depends on the dimensions of the product, material, and type of trap.

Cancer, after climbing into such a trap, cannot always leave it on its own, even after the bait is completely eaten

Lures

If a small fish is used to catch crayfish, then the air bubble is pierced, otherwise the bait will float up in the crayfish trap and catching crayfish will not be effective

Various natural products are used as bait for catching arthropods. Crayfish is omnivorous, so bread grated with garlic and fresh fish can be placed in the crayfish trap. The claim that crayfish are attracted to the smell of rotten meat is untrue.

Of course, when arthropods experience a nutritional deficiency, they attack any food, even with a strong odor. If cancer has a choice, it eats fresh fish.

When fishing is combined with catching crayfish, the best bait is fish caught with a fishing rod, which is kept in the sun for 2 - 3 hours. If you manage to catch a large fish, then you can use a fish head to catch crayfish.

If a small fish is used to catch crayfish, then the air bubble is pierced, otherwise the bait will float up in the crayfish trap and catching crayfish will not be effective. An excellent bait for catching crayfish are mollusks that are found in a body of water where arthropods live.

The shell of the mollusk should be opened with a sharp knife and in this form placed in shells. There is no need to additionally weight this bait; the shell has significant weight, which will not allow the bait to float up. To catch crayfish, you can use frozen fish, which you buy in a store: it is thawed and used. Frozen products are not inferior in effectiveness to fresh, just caught fish.

In the summer, crayfish are caught for meat. For this purpose, the stomachs, liver and kidneys of various animals are used. Crayfish are well caught using steamed peas or corn. To prepare such bait, you need to boil the cereal in salted water until tender. Place in a gauze bag and place in a clamshell.

Adding dill to plant baits significantly increases the catch of crayfish; you can use artificial attractants with odors that crayfish like, such as fish and shrimp.

How to catch

Good results in catching arthropods can be obtained on a cloudy day; at this time, the behavior of the crayfish is no different from night outings in search of food.

Catching crayfish with a closed and open crayfish trap differs slightly. An open trap requires more frequent checking of the gear; a closed trap can be left overnight or for a longer time. Cancer will not be able to get out of a closed structure on its own.

To install both types of crayfish traps, select a place with a steep bank. It is advisable that there be some hiding places for the crayfish underwater. You can count on a large catch of crayfish where there are large stones at the bottom of the reservoir, under which the crayfish make their burrows.

Reservoirs with low oxygen content, dirty water, and a sandy bottom are practically unsuitable for catching crayfish. The depth of the reservoir does not matter when catching crayfish. If there are all conditions for the life of crayfish at the bottom, then they can be found both in deep-sea places and at a depth of no more than 0.5 meters.

At night you can catch crayfish with greater success than during the day. You can leave closed traps overnight and check the gear in the morning. Good results in catching arthropods can be obtained on a cloudy day. At this time, the behavior of the crayfish does not differ from night trips in search of food.

The traps are set from the shore, or a boat is used to set the traps away from the shore. In the latter case, in order to determine the location of the trap, a large piece of foam is tied to the rope. When catching crayfish from the shore, the rope of the crayfish is tied to a tree or a stick, which is driven into the ground to a depth of 20–30 cm. If several traps are used, the distance between them should be at least 10 meters.

An excellent place for catching crayfish can be areas of reservoirs where water is pumped from one reservoir to another. During the operation of the pumping system of such water pumps, small fish are injured and there is always a large amount of food for crayfish in such places.

To fish near water pumps it is not necessary to stock up on bait, you can catch a fish floating upside down with a fine-mesh net, cut it, and secure it in a trap to catch large numbers of arthropods.

  1. Crayfish have a highly developed sense of smell, so all baits used in catching crayfish must emit a smell.
The garlic smell is especially attractive to arthropods. You can check the effectiveness of such aromatization by rubbing a piece of brick with garlic and placing such bait in a trap. After a short time, arthropods will definitely “enter” the crayfish trap, attracted by the pleasant aroma. If the smell is not strong enough, especially for vegetable baits, then they must be additionally flavored with garlic juice.
  2. In all cases, except for the use of shellfish, the bait must be securely attached to the bottom of the crayfish trap. For this purpose, a pocket of nylon fabric is sewn at the bottom of the trap. It is possible to attach a large bait with an elastic band, and if the structure is quite dense, then you can use a pin for this purpose.
  3. The most favorable time for catching crayfish is from July to December. At this time, the crayfish gains significant weight, and caviar deposits begin to form in females. Almost any bait of animal origin can be used as bait at this time. You can use white bread rubbed with garlic and wrapped in cheesecloth.
  4. When using fresh fish as bait for catching crayfish, it must be cut along the body. This must be done to attract arthropods with the smell of fish meat and blood.
  5. Ponds near poultry farms may be promising places for catching arthropods. Meat production waste often ends up in such reservoirs, and there can be a huge number of crayfish in such places.

Despite the popular belief that crayfish are unpretentious to environmental conditions, this is actually not the case. In fact, these creatures prefer water bodies that are clean from pollution and have a sufficient amount of oxygen in the water, so they are not found in large quantities in all water bodies. However, it should be borne in mind that during the year there are not one, but two fishing bans, which are associated not only with reproduction, but also with molting. When can you catch crayfish? But there is no clear answer to this question, since the rules are established separately for each specific fishing basin, and the duration of the ban may not coincide. Consequently, it is better to clarify the question of whether it is possible to catch them in a specific area in advance, so as not to pay a fine later (the size of the crayfish matters; catching individuals less than 9-10 cm in length is prohibited).

Actually, in the middle zone you can find three species of crustaceans - broad-clawed, narrow-clawed and American signal crayfish. The narrow-clawed species is the most common, as the broad-clawed population has been significantly reduced by a fungal disease known as crayfish plague. The broad-toed crayfish is considered a vulnerable species, so in some regions the fishing of such crayfish is completely prohibited. Different species differ in the size and shape of the claws - in the narrow-fingered one they are more elongated and long, in the broad-fingered one they are more massive, and the American one has a light spot on the joints of the claws (this spot gave the species its name). The narrow-toed crayfish is also more resistant to environmental pollution.

Crayfish live in reservoirs that are well warmed up in the summer, with clean and oxygenated water (certain species like the narrow-clawed crayfish can also live in polluted water). Crayfish need rocks, tree roots, various holes and other shelters at the bottom of the reservoir that are suitable for crustacean life. Leading such a lifestyle, they do not like a bottom that is too muddy, preferably hard soil, in which, in the absence of natural shelters, crayfish can dig holes on their own. Compared to fish, the peculiarities of the life cycle of crayfish are such that they become defenseless not only during the mating season, but also during the molting period, which determines the presence of two fishing bans per year.

Important! The broad-clawed crayfish is a rarer species than other freshwater crayfish; in some regions its fishing is prohibited all year round.

In sections of rivers where conditions are good for crayfish, they multiply quickly and turn into a disaster for fishermen, especially floaters and feeders, although there are many cases when the crayfish grabs bottom spinning baits like silicone during fishing. Crayfish eat bait from hooks, while reacting to almost any bait, and when they get to a hook with a nozzle, they imitate a fish bite - it is difficult to distinguish a careful bite from a crayfish’s attempt to steal the bait. Therefore, if the goal of fishing is not crayfish, these aquatic inhabitants can significantly spoil the angler’s mood, especially since they are practically not scared off by anything. Many fishermen avoid fishing with bottom gear in areas where many crayfish live.

Where to look?

The habitats of crayfish are located close to the shore (although exceptions to this rule are not so rare). A clay or rocky bottom is a promising option; a muddy or sandy bottom is less attractive to them, since in such conditions it is more difficult to dig holes, and there are few natural shelters. Places where crayfish are found:

  • In river sections with hard muddy or rocky bottoms.
  • Along steep banks, especially if tree roots extend from the shore into the water, between such roots, in natural shelter, there are often a lot of crayfish.
  • Near various abandoned structures like piers.
  • Heavily stuck areas of a river or pond are also very promising.
  • Inspecting the boundary between hard and muddy or sandy areas of the bottom can also be effective.

At the same time, the entrance to the hole is often hidden by something - a stone, the roots of coastal plants or bottom debris. There are reservoirs where, when searching for crayfish, you can also find burbot hiding from the heat in places suitable for these aquatic inhabitants.

Features of the ban on catching crayfish

The ban on catching crayfish in different regions covers different months, so finding out when it is allowed to catch crayfish is necessary in each region. In the same Moscow region, the ban is completely year-round. You can also find a year-round ban on catching individual species - the same rare broad-toed crayfish in the Novgorod region cannot be caught all year. There are also regions where there are two, rather than one, ban periods throughout the year.

Also, even during the period when fishing is permitted, there may be restrictions on the number of crustaceans caught, or on the size - in many regions it is prohibited to catch specimens with a body length of less than 9 or 10 cm.

Important! Even in neighboring areas, the duration of the fishing ban may vary significantly. Before fishing, it is worth clarifying the duration of the ban (or bans), as well as finding out the permissible size and type of catch.

Examples of fishing ban periods in different regions:

  • Moscow region– the ban is valid throughout the year.
  • For Astrakhan region– from the beginning of April to the end of June.
  • In the territory Bryansk region fishing is prohibited from the beginning of October until the end of June.
  • IN Kursk region You cannot catch from the beginning of October until the end of June, and the body length of crayfish caught during the permitted time must be at least 10 cm.
  • In the territory Samara region There are two bans throughout the year - from the beginning of January until July 15, and from August 10 until September 10.

Fishing with hands and spear

Since the crayfish fishing season occurs mainly in the warm season, the easiest way is to catch it by hand. The answer to the question of how to catch crayfish with your hands is quite simple, but the specifics depend on the time of day. During the day, they simply search all the interesting areas of the bottom - under snags, between stones, various holes found at the bottom. Especially carefully it is worth examining the steep banks that go steeply into the water. It is convenient to fish not alone, but with a partner - while one lifts stones, the other catches the discovered crayfish. But it is believed that daylight hours are not the best choice, since crayfish are more active at night. To increase efficiency, you can use a breathing tube, a mask, or a flashlight that works underwater.

Photo 2. Searching for crayfish near a steep shore.

Night, according to many anglers, is the best time to catch crayfish. At night, they go to the shallows in search of food, where it is especially convenient to catch using artificial lighting. At the same time, many fishermen recommend lighting a fire on the shore, since the light does not scare away, but, on the contrary, attracts crayfish.

Among the simplest devices that can be made right on the spot, it is worth highlighting the spear. This is a long stick with a wedge inserted into the split, due to which its ends diverge to the sides. It is better to use raw wood (ideally, the stick should be just cut) rather than dry - in this case it retains its elasticity and does not break when fishing. The spear is used in the following way - having noticed a crayfish, they press it to the bottom with the forked end of the spear (the shell of the crayfish is strong, such fishing usually does not cause serious damage to the catch), after which it is not difficult to pull the prey out of the water.

Using a clamshell and other devices

You can also make a fishing rod for catching crayfish on site. Of course, such gear can be called a fishing rod with a stretch - it’s just a stick pointed at one end, to the other end of which a fishing line is tied. A bag is tied to the fishing line for bait, which can be used as pieces of fish, meat, earthworms (crawlers) and red dung worms. The bag is thrown into a promising place, and the stick is stuck into the ground on the shore. Every half hour it is worth carefully pulling out the bag on which the crayfish may be sitting, grasping the prey with its claws.

Photo 3. One of the types of crayfish.

A simpler method of fishing can be considered a crayfish trap and a net, since you can check them for the presence of a catch much less often. A rakolovka is a trap consisting of several rings made of metal, heavy plastic, or in rare cases wood, covered with a net, or less often with fabric. This design has a special structure of its entrances, thanks to which cancer can get in, but cannot get out. Merezha is distinguished by a large number of rings, as well as a more complex design of the entrances to the trap. The crayfish or merezh is attached to a stick with a rope or thick fishing line, and cast into a quiet, deep section of the river. Inside such a structure it is necessary to place something that will attract crayfish with its smell - these can be pieces of fish, meat (both fresh and slightly rotten). The catch using crayfish is often impressive, which is why in some regions it is considered poaching gear. Opinions are divided as to whether meat or fish should be fresh to attract crayfish - some fishermen believe that fresh meat works more efficiently, while others, on the contrary, use only rotten meat.

Many people know how to catch crayfish. For a long time they were hunted simply with their hands, probing the coastal rocky bottom or the depressions of the clayey shore in search of minks. Hence the saying: “So that you find out where the crayfish spend the winter!” This is a wish that the name would have to look for them in cold weather. That's when catching crayfish is the most unpleasant activity. Just imagine: wandering along the edge of the ice, making holes and fumbling in cold water... Not to mention the fact that being pinched on the finger by an angry arthropod is also not God knows what kind of pleasure.

That's why smart people came up with crayfish traps. These are very simple devices that you can make yourself. They resemble wire string bags. They put bait in the middle of such a bag, lower it on a rope to the bottom and calmly go home for several hours. The only important thing is to know when to catch crayfish. These are crepuscular animals. As a rule, they crawl out of their holes to feed when evening comes. But after midnight the activity of these animals declines. But simply stating that the best season for hunting aquatic arthropods is from 20:00 to 3:00 would be too much of an oversimplification.

If the water is clear and the bottom of the river or lake is rocky, then it is better to set the bait closer to 7-8 pm, but if there is a lot of silt, then 5 hours or even 4 will do. Crayfish are very fond of illumination, so experienced hunters light a fire at the edge water or take a powerful flashlight with them into the boat (if they decide to cast a crayfish far from the shore). By the way, about the bait: contrary to popular belief that crayfish eat rotten meat, they are perfectly suited to the smell of raw, fresh fish. They also love oil cakes, dill and garlic. To prevent herbs and vegetables from floating, they are wrapped in gauze with something heavy. But when it is not recommended to catch crayfish, it is during a thunderstorm and a full moon. Science cannot yet explain the last phenomenon (after all, crayfish love light). But the animals are very active during drizzling rain.

It is believed that even in Ancient Rus' it was revealed in which month to catch crayfish. Allegedly those whose names do not contain the letter “r”. There are not many of them. It turns out that hunting for crustaceans is allowed only from May to August. But, if you think about it, in Ancient Rus' there were completely different names for the months: grass - May, serpen - August, etc. And common sense dictates: the most delicious crayfish are those caught at the end of August or at the beginning of September. Over the summer, the animal has already gained fat and given birth to offspring.

The question of when to start catching crayfish can be answered this way: from the time when it is allowed. They are different in each region and edge of Russia, but mainly in the spring and until the end of June there is a ban on hunting. It is during those months, the modern names of which in Russian do not contain the letter “r,” that crayfish molt, acquire a new shell and give birth. Yes, of course, they are caught well in the summer, because they are very hungry and go out hunting even during the day. But their meat is tasteless and non-nutritious. Let the animal accumulate useful substances in the body, and generally live...

When deciding when to catch crayfish, you need to take into account the presence of inexperienced young animals that get caught in the net. The most delicious and fatty animals are those whose length from the eyes to the tail plate is at least 10 centimeters. These crayfish are about three years old. Only such a specimen is considered commercial.

They have tasty and tender meat, which many people love to enjoy. In the article we will analyze the process from its basics to the tricks, using which you will have a good catch. This is done quite simply, the main thing is to know where they are found, as well as the habits of this inhabitant of reservoirs. We will look at what time you can fish, how to find it in a reservoir, what bait to use and much more. After reading, you will not have any more questions that usually always arise for beginners in this business.

About habits

They prefer clean water. If you find a body of water in which they are present, then this place is quite environmentally friendly! It is quite a desirable prey, almost the same as fish. The taste is not questioned and therefore, some people prefer to snack on them when drinking beer. In addition, it itself often serves as bait, which can even be used to catch fish.

The length of a large individual, without claws, can reach as much as 20 centimeters, and the weight of an adult is often 150-200 grams. Catching just such a cancer is a great success! In most cases, fishermen are content with medium-sized prey, 10-12 centimeters in length. Let's discuss some features of production today, talk about choosing a territory, clarify the most suitable time for fishing and, of course, discuss in detail methods of production.

Habitats in rivers and lakes

Before answering the question of how to catch a lot, you need to decide in what place to do it. They are excellently caught in clean waters, so pay attention to the condition of the river, lake or pond before proceeding directly to the fishing process. Some crayfish fishermen note that the river is a little more suitable for this activity than stagnant lakes and ponds.

They can live at a variety of depths, ranging from 50 centimeters and reaching up to 3 meters. Remember that they choose a rocky bottom; it is not a problem to find a sufficient number of shelters there. You can come across them in reservoirs with a clay bottom, because it allows them to dig holes and hide there.

No need to search:

  • In shallow water with a hard sandy bottom.
  • On a muddy bottom, with dense thickets.

What time

Check the fishing dates according to your territorial location!

If you do not want to waste your time just like that, then you should know when is the best time to do it. The most suitable night for this fishery is from 22:00 to 3:00. But this does not mean that sooner or later you will be left without a catch. In some reservoirs, crayfish decide to get out of their hiding places not at night, but early in the morning.

Therefore, make sure in advance that fishing for these representatives is already permitted in your area. Among the majority there is an opinion that the most delicious specimens are caught in the fall, from late August to late October: fatty, rich, tasty meat.

The best baits and fishing methods

All methods can be divided into 2 types:

  • With a homemade net or a specialized crayfish catcher
  • Using a mask and fins.

Wobblers that catch 100%:

All main methods are listed in the article. It talks about 8 methods, each of which is also used in the summer.

The second option is more than clear. Using our recommendations, you find the body of water in which they are found. If the water is already warm enough, all you need is a mask and fins. The main tool will still be fins; they will help you dive a couple of meters with ease and comfort, as well as surface.

If you don’t have a mask, don’t worry; with some skill, you can do this without one. Try to grab them by both claws to minimize the chances of being bitten. Let's look at the first option in a little more detail, although it is just as simple. All you need is a special net and bait.

The clamshell most often resembles a fish tank, and the principle of its operation is as follows. The bait is placed on its bottom (we will look at it below), then it all sinks to the bottom - that’s it. All that remains is to wait and periodically pull it out to check for a catch.

Sensing the smell of food, they begin to climb the mesh and at some point, reaching the neck (top) they simply fall inside. It is no longer possible to get out of there.

First, we'll talk about what kind of bait you need to use to make fishing productive. Let’s immediately say that the opinions of fishermen differ and therefore, we decided to simply offer two pieces of advice at your discretion that should be effective:

  • is the favorite of all baits. The article contains 2 of the most effective methods, and they are very simple.
  • Use fresh fish, not rotten fish. You can also add a little dill, a piece of cake, as well as rye bread, after rubbing it with garlic;
  • Use grasshoppers and frogs. In this case, the meat may be rotten, since crayfish are good at carrion.

Anyone can catch fish, but what about catching crayfish? Where and how to catch crayfish and show off to your friends and bring home this unusual delicacy? We will analyze all possible methods and give the best guide to catching crayfish on the Internet, and also mention the ban on catching crayfish.

Where to look for crayfish

Cancer cannot resist powerful currents, so it lives in rivers with weak currents, or in reservoirs with standing water - ponds, lakes, small streams. The cleaner the pond, the clearer the water, the more chances you have of finding crayfish, because... It is in such reservoirs that there is a greater amount of oxygen in the water column, and this cannot but attract it. The advantage of such a reservoir is that it will be easier for you to spot crayfish in crystal clear water.

Crayfish love to live near rock bottoms, giving preference to clay bottoms, because it is in them that the crayfish can huddle and dig holes. We do not recommend looking for crayfish on a hard sandy or muddy bottom, especially if it is infested with algae.

Crayfish can also be found in abruptly breaking banks, in such places it is best to dig those very holes. Mostly small individuals live near the shore, while large ones are found deeper and in more hidden parts of the reservoir. Accordingly, the further the tackle or crayfish is thrown, the greater the chance of catching a large or trophy specimen.

They catch crayfish in the evening, after sunset and until the morning. But with great luck, you can catch crayfish during the day, when some individuals may “lose fear” from hunger strike.

Before you go fishing for crayfish, remember that in all regions of Russia there are bans on catching crayfish at certain times. For example, in Moscow and Moscow Region you cannot catch crayfish at any time.

Catching crayfish using a crayfish trap

We already have it, but we’ll still look at it again.

Types of crayfish

Open type shell
Closed type

Depending on the fishing conditions and the preferences of the fisherman himself, the types of crayfish are selected. Which one to choose depends on the situation and the expected catch, but any of the crayfish traps should be used at a depth of 1.5-2 meters.

Open type

They are an extremely simple design that you can also make yourself. As a rule, when opened, it is a ball or cone that is attached to a stick pointed at the end and stuck into the bottom. An alternative option is to attach a weight to the bottom of the cage that is heavy enough to prevent it from being washed away by the current. Well, of course, a strong rope is tied to each crayfish trap to easily remove the structure back from the water.

Closed type or night light

Closed-type crayfish, also known as nightlights, generally provide the best results for crayfish fishing. There are several types of such crayfish traps, their design is much more complex than open-type traps, but they are all made of an aluminum or steel frame. Dimensions: bottom 30-55 cm, upper part 1.5-2 times narrower, that is, 15-25 cm. The height of such traps can reach 25 cm. The hole for the “entry” of the crayfish should be at least 8 cm.

There are also such types of “night lights” as gobies. They can be cylindrical or rectangular. They have more pharynx windows, but the principle remains the same. Large dimensions are a disadvantage of such crayfish traps, since they are difficult to transport and use in very small bodies of water. Sinkers are placed inside - stones are best suited. In the center is the bait.

Trick: if the trap slams shut in the water, tie a rope to the edges of the windows, from which there will be a strong float that will keep the trap doors open. You can measure the depth with a marker float or a coastal wireless echo sounder.

Such traps are checked 3-4 times during the entire fishing period, or every 1-2 hours.

What to use as bait

Some claim that crayfish are attracted to rotten, stale bait, but this contradicts even common sense; fresh food fibers are better absorbed by crayfish, while rotten food can harm it. Yes, the crayfish will easily smell the smell of such bait, but it will “bite” on it quite reluctantly, if at all, because it may not be so hungry. Therefore, let’s consolidate and destroy stereotypes - the fresher the bait, the more willingly the cancer will bite on it.

It is worth attracting cancer with fresh pieces of fish, rolled, pressed balls of bread; garlic, worms, frogs, cake, peas, corn, meat of birds or small animals, shellfish, large insects, larvae, elodea are also suitable. Crayfish is quite omnivorous, but there is one rule: in spring (April, May) and summer (June, July, August, September) it is more inclined to choose plant baits, while in winter (December, January, February, March) and autumn ( October, November) – animals. But this does not mean that, for example, in May you cannot catch a perch, skin it and catch a good crayfish.

Place the bait in the core of the trap in large pieces so that it does not leak and fall into the pond.

Catching crayfish with your hands or a net

The main condition for such fishing is the cleanest possible water. The place is fed with chopped fish, lying under the sun for 1-2 hours, this is enough for the smell emanating from the bait to attract crayfish. When fishing with a net, as well as with your hands, you should avoid sudden movements and wear gloves. You can try to find their burrows, in which other individuals will be hiding.

Such a catch can be carried out both from the shore and from a boat. At night, it would be wise to take a flashlight and illuminate the water while moving along the shore. You should look for them near snags, between stones and in burrows. In some cases, crayfish even come to land. They are attracted to light, so divorced on the shore a fire can stimulate their foray onto land.

Ostrogoy

A spear is a long spear or pole, at the end of which there are several points, on which, in fact, the crayfish are mounted. The fishing method is the same as catching with your hands. 2-3 hours after sunset, walk along the shore with a flashlight and look for individuals. Until the last moment, behave as discreetly and carefully as possible.

Catching crayfish with tackle (rod)

The tackle requires a stake. It is stuck into the ground, sometimes at an angle. From the stake comes a fishing line with a peculiar equipment. The equipment is a container tied with nylon stockings or mesh (for greater grip). Bait is placed in the container itself - the same bread, garlic or pieces of fish. A weight is also placed on the bottom so that the tackle does not float or “wander” along the bottom. At the moment of “biting,” the crayfish grabs the nylon with its claws and gets hooked. At this moment, you need to slowly lift the tackle. For greater effect, you can wait for other individuals to come together.

Crayfish are also caught using feeder feeders and many hooks. The tackle is non-standard, but interesting. More hooks mean a greater chance of catching crayfish. The feeder is connected using a swivel.

How to keep crayfish fresh

If you catch a crayfish almost immediately, and intend to spend a lot of time fishing, the question arises of how to store the crayfish so that it remains fresh and alive until the end of fishing.

If you catch crayfish in the summer, then protect the caught trophy from direct sunlight, the crayfish will quickly fry and dry out in the sun, and may even die. It is best to store it directly in water, in a closed structure, from which the cancer cannot crawl out and escape. If this is not an option and there is no container, then place it in the shade and occasionally rinse with water.

If you catch crayfish in winter, there is a chance that they will freeze to death, despite the fact that crayfish are cold-blooded animals. The best option would be to leave the crayfish in the water, in a structure from which it cannot escape, or to place it in a place that barely exceeds the temperature of 1-2 degrees Celsius.

  • Go fishing in the evening; the deeper the night, the more crayfish come to land;
  • Don't forget your gloves, don't underestimate crayfish;
  • Remember that there is a ban on catching crayfish during the spawning season (early May);
  • If the crayfish has clung to something, then lower its tail into the water. Having felt it, he will unhook.
