There are many countries and airlines in the world, and each has its own characteristics and principles by which airline recruiters conduct their selection, which they pay special attention to. If you need to find out what are the requirements for flight attendants in a particular airline, then the best reference is the official website of the airline. And also don’t be lazy to study at least a brief history of the airline’s country of origin, local culture, find out any specifics, etc. During the SkyJob course, we examine in detail and analyze the requirements of airlines where a Ukrainian can become a flight attendant, and determine the differences. Having studied with our specialists - experienced flight attendants who have visited many places in the world and talked with representatives of different airlines, you will know for sure what it takes to become a flight attendant in certain airlines and their requirements.

If you meet all the requirements for the physiological part from block 2, then in order for you to understand how to become a flight attendant and what to do to become a flight attendant in terms of working on yourself, we will briefly describe in this article the basic mental (mental) requirements for flight attendants. parts that are almost the same in all airlines, and we will also name some differences as an example. We talk about these requirements in more detail in the theoretical part of our training, and reinforce and give recommendations on how to meet these requirements in the practical part of the training.

So, one of the most important requirements is English language proficiency. Note that it does not have to be perfect. For Ukrainian airlines, an average level is enough. For foreigners, higher is desirable. But, if you present yourself at the interview in the way that recruiters like: you behave correctly at all stages, answer questions correctly, work well in team group games and have the right appearance, then you will be hired with average English. This is the main goal of our training – maximum preparation for an interview in all of the above. And, moreover, we give you the most necessary things in English, what topics and areas to study for an interview, so that you are not distracted by non-priority things.

Flight attendant education: any higher education is suitable

All airlines want to have not only beautiful and well-groomed employees on their staff, but also educated ones. Therefore, the requirements for flight attendants also include education. For Ukraine, this is at least basic higher education, that is, bachelor's degree. Let us repeat: in order to become a flight attendant, any higher education is suitable. In foreign airlines, you can get a job as a flight attendant with education at the junior specialist level (incomplete higher education), that is, after graduating from any college.

The following requirements from this block are not so formalized, but are also very important in order to become a flight attendant. They relate to universal human qualities and skills, and require that the candidate for the position of flight attendant have developed communication skills. In all SkyJob training sessions, our students train and develop these abilities to one degree or another. We give you the basics of both verbal and non-verbal communication, the so-called body language, which is also an important element of presenting yourself in the most favorable light. After working with our team and a group of other flight attendant applicants, you will not only improve your communication skills for interviews (not limited to flight attendant positions), but you will also have the tools to develop yourself in the future.

We have named the basic requirements for flight attendants in terms of mental development. This should also include psychological traits, for example, resistance to stress, friendliness, openness, etc. During our training sessions you will learn how these qualities are tested by airline recruiters during an interview, you will practice typical tasks and receive recommendations on how to develop them yourself in order to be sure that You fully meet all the requirements for flight attendants.

Age, health, physical characteristics, etc.

Any airline has different flight attendants and stewards: by appearance, by age, and in large international airlines, by skin color and nationality. Most often, flight attendants are girls and young people, well-groomed, neat and attentive. You can also meet older people on board the plane, and especially in foreign airlines, flight attendants are often of retirement age. As a rule, these are old-timers in aviation who have been flying for decades. But no matter what age you are when you try to become a flight attendant, you must meet certain requirements. There are basic requirements for flight attendants all over the world, in any airline, and there are, of course, specific ones depending on the airline’s home country and local cultural traditions, political system, religious beliefs, etc.

Flight attendant age

Let's start with one of the most important requirements - age. There is a generally accepted requirement in aviation for all airlines in the world that the minimum age for admission to the position of flight attendant is 21 years. But you can submit an application and pass an interview at the age of 20! An example is a graduate of our course, Inna, who, as a final year student and at the age of 20, was invited and successfully passed an interview with one of the best airlines in the world, Qatar Airways! The upper age limit for this job varies from airline to airline. For example, in Ukraine a limit of 30 years is accepted if there is no prior experience as a flight attendant. In foreign airlines there is no clear maximum age limit, and you can become a flight attendant after 30 years. They prioritize human qualities, the ability to work in a team, experience working with people, clients, and other skills that our team teaches and trains in the SkyJob course. Of course, it will be problematic to get this position at the age of, for example, 50 years, but, in our experience, and this is confirmed by familiar flight attendants of foreign airlines, you can get a job there without any problems up to 35 years old inclusive, and recently we became aware of a case where the interview A 42-year-old woman successfully completed her flight with Etihad Airways!

Height and weight of flight attendants

Height and weight are the next important requirements for flight attendants. Growth has no clear numerical limit. The main thing is the ability to reach the 210 cm mark (or 212 cm depending on the airline) while standing barefoot on your toes with your arm extended upward. You are allowed to try with different hands and standing on different legs, because a person is asymmetrical, and besides, everyone has different stretches in the joints. This works for girls about 163+ in height, but sometimes those who are shorter can also reach it.

With weight the situation is even simpler. As a rule, you are not weighed at an interview if there are no obvious signs of obesity. In other words, your weight should be relatively proportional to your height, that is, you should have a harmonious figure, and you shouldn’t worry about an extra kilogram or two.

Specific requirements for flight attendants

Some airlines have their own specific requirements for flight attendants. For example, an unusual requirement of Qatar Airways, which is one of the target airlines of our SkyJob training, and where two of our female graduates successfully passed interviews, is a complete absence of tattoos on the body. By the way, Emirates, Etihad, UIA, etc. airlines allow tattoos, but on parts of the body that are invisible in clothing.

In general, the requirements for flight attendants, of course, imply good health among candidates for this position. Those who dream of becoming flight attendants should not be frightened by this requirement: health does not have to be perfect. The main thing is the absence of chronic and sexually transmitted diseases, problems with the nasopharynx and breathing, and with the skin. Minor deviations are allowed if they do not interfere with flight operations. The final decision on admission to flights is made by the flight doctor at the medical commission. The overwhelming majority of young people successfully complete it.
